Unpakt

"Best moving experience ever"
Great service to quickly find movers and see actual prices without spending time on long phone calls.
I edited my inventory (Unpakt built a basic list for me to start off with), compared prices and selected a mover to reserve my move with.
Movers came on move day, moved my stuff quickly and safely and didn't ask for any cash or payment. I paid through Unpakt and knew exactly what will be my final price.
The easiest move I ever had. Felt like riding an Uber :-)

"Made moving stress-free"
It made moving super easy. I listed my items, chose a quoted bid, got a fair, solid, price. Move day was swift and painless. I moved from a one bedroom from Brooklyn to Manhattan, and all in all in took less than 3 hours. Should've done this in my previous moves.

"Worst Possible Service -- Borderline Scam"
The worst possible service. Unpakt does little-to no-actual facilitating or moderation between you and your contracted moving carrier.
Most of the communication between my mover and me was via direct calls from the mover's dispatch office or the truck driver to me. When I asked the carrier to communicate through Unpakt, they never did. The carrier called me on a Wednesday night telling me they would deliver Thursday morning, but then never showed up. I missed a day of work for that. When I called Unpakt Thursday afternoon seeking resolution for the late delivery, I found out I was billed that day with an extra surprise $450 "shuttle fee" through Unpakt for a delivery that never occurred. Unpakt said this was based on the discretion of the carrier because they said a normal 53' semi wouldn't fit in my neighborhood. Meanwhile, at no point during all the "off the record" calls the carrier placed to me was it decided a shuttle was needed; quite the opposite, I told them numerous times not to bring one because they kept asking, which seemed suspicious. However, Unpakt saw it fit to take the word of the carrier - without confirming with me, the customer - and charge me for shuttle service on a yet-to-occur delivery. I literally begged Unpakt to take this fraudulent charge off my bill and refund me, but they refused and said it was "how they do business". When the carrier did finally show up on Friday, they were in a full-sized 53' semi, not the shuttle I was pre-emptively charged for. I had to take a photo of the semi and send it to Unpakt to get them to agree to refund the shuttle fee. And Unpakt never did address the late delivery with the carrier or offer any compensation or discount for my lost time. When I called Unpakt again on Friday afternoon to discuss damaged furniture from the move, the woman on the phone said it was almost closing time and a manager probably wasn't around. Across two stressful days of discussing late deliveries, arguing unwarranted fees, begging Unpakt not to charge me for services not rendered, and being told I couldn't talk to a manager, Unpakt kept up this line of BS saying there were emails between me, the carrier, and Unpakt detailing all of this and that I was being unreasonable or dramatic. I only received an email from the carrier AFTER arguing with Unpakt about the erroneous shuttle fee on Thursday because I had to then call the carrier MYSELF and ask them to forward me the correspondence they had with Unpakt about up-charging me.
Also, the carrier had three guys show up to offload my stuff, but only one actually did any work. The other two "weren't dressed for the weather". If the carrier's personnel are not able to stand Ohio in November, why are they allowed to move my stuff? Unpakt had no answer for that, either.
The real kicker is that, while unloading my stuff on Friday, the mover's dispatcher called the driver (who was standing in my living room) and asked if a shuttle was needed because Unpakt got my photo of his truck and was going to refund my money if they didn't use one. So there you have it: I heard the carrier dispatch trying to justify a fraudulent expense after I worked so hard to resolve it with no help from Unpakt. Thankfully, the driver said he was almost done and no shuttle was used. These are the types of companies Unpakt contracts to handle your move.
Unpakt is an awful company and should be reported to the Better Business Bureau. So should the carrier that moved my stuff (Puma Van Lines).

"I HIGHLY recommend Unpakt"
i HIGHLY recommend this service. I have moved several times long distances and have never had a really great experience until now. A friend of mine suggested Unpakt and I am so glad she did. I found the best moving company, M&M, and the price was reasonable and they even did an in home quote. The move was seemless. When I had questions on what to categorize in my inventory the customer service was very helpful. Absolutely will use form now on if I need to make another move.

"Put false charges on my move after the fact"
Horrid company which is absolutely worthless at customer services. Our movers were rude and put extra charges on the contract after we signed it, and tried to charge us for it. I called and chatted with unpakt and they told me I had to take it up with the moving company. They made no attempt to resolve or correct the issue and were rude about it. Would never work with them again.

"SCAM and Terrible Customer Service"
I canceled my service on Aug 30th before my move (because you were overcharging me, I called the company direct and got a quote $100 less than your price) it's been over a week and I still have not been refunded.... #scam #ScamAlert

"Absolutely the worst moving experience, ever."
Unpakt was responsible for the worst moving and customer service experience of our life.
First, a preface: two years ago we had the BEST move of our life with Unpakt. They recommended a great packing company Simply Moving, five guys turned up on time with great attitudes and moved us out of our apartment in about five hours. An incredibly charming Unpakt customer service rep called and checked in the day before, the day of and the day after the move, it was easy and actually ENJOYABLE! I told everyone I know to use Unpakt. I raved about it.
But that was 2016.
This is 2018.
The movers Unpakt recommended, Braha, turned up late, stinking of cigarettes, with huge attitude - just three guys - and they said they wanted to leave one guy in the van 'to guard it'. (There is a dedicated parking space for movers right outside our building.) They started wandering around our small two-bedroom apartment, looking lost. We had sold or donated about 25% of our stuff, and pre-packed all the kids clothes, our toiletries, and we already had all our books in boxes, as we wanted to save them time. The second and third guy didn't even know how to make up boxes.
Absolutely nothing was packed in the first 45 minutes.
I rang Unpakt and said, I'm worried they didn't send enough moving men, I don't even think these guys are legit, I think they are cowboys. The Unpakt customer service representative, who introduced himself as Matthew, said, "Cowboys? What is THAT supposed to mean?" I said "um, I mean that I don't think they are professional, they can't even make up boxes". He paused a long time and said "... right." I said "I’m so sorry, but this just shouldn't be happening, we have so many boxes ready to load, we have thousands of books already packed -" he interrupted sarcastically "you have THOUSANDS of books?" I was stunned to be treated so rudely and said "yes, actually I am a writer - ". He replied something like "…. Right okay sure". I was so surprised and upset to be treated like this that I put the phone down and burst into tears.
Over the course of the next 14 hours, I rang both Unpakt and Braha multiple times, and sent multiple emails, as it was clear that the move was simply NOT happening the way it should have been. Braha sent another mover, who also milled around looking lost, struggling with boxes and tape. I was also heavily pregnant at the time. My husband was waiting for Braha to finish until past midnight. The Braha movers forced my exhausted husband to sign a home-made document saying that the move was over.
Our building manager said he'd never seen such inept and slow packing – as he commented ‘it’s not even like you have a big apartment or a lot of stuff’. Our neighbors were texting me photos of the half-loaded van at 10pm and asking what the hell was going on. It was *insane*.
We emailed Unpakt to complain about the unbelievable stress and substandard quality of this move, and received a terse email back from the same customer service person Matthew.
Two weeks later we got a bill for an extra $6,000 from Unpakt, saying that the home-made document my husband was forced to sign just after midnight on moving day was an agreement of additional services.
Summary: NEVER EVER MOVE WITH UNPAKT.

"What a great service .."
What a great service ... very simple easy to use interface and good way to reconcile and find best solution to your situation. The moving company that I picked was correctly represented by Unpakt and every thing went as planned. Granted I was prepared and had already done some homework -- so Unpakt just made me more organized and I used them as a 3rd party source to what I had started to figure out on my own.

"My furniture was horribly damaged"
My furniture was horribly damaged. They sent someone to "repair" it, and he showed up with a plastic bag full of furniture paint he bought at the store on his way here. He was incompetent and was unable to even improve the deep gashes and scratch marks on all my major furniture. I have been trying to get a response for a year, without any acceptable help. Unpakt was not helpful in addressing the problem. Unpakt arranged the unsatisfactory moving company that moved me and damaged my furniture. Given they apparently do not vet the movers they recommend, or help mitigate the damage, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
