ZEDRA
John Robertson
"Tricked their way into a will and want £360 for removal"
They took over a scam from Barclays which is to type out a will as a paid service, but insert themselves as executor. At the time the person writing the will was shocked, but hoped that just signing a copy of the will would save executors like from having to use the executor service if they did not want to.
After death there is a second charge of £360 to release the top copy of the will and renounce executorship "because it's a legal document". Some solicitors and will-writing service may think that this is perfectly OK, but it obviously isn't. It may be perfectly legal, but if obvously shouldn't be. So this is a lucrative scam. As for Zedra's other "services", they look quite interesting and specialised, ranging from tax havens to family trusts but I wouldn't touch any firm that tricks its way into peoples' wills and then charges £360 for removal

I complained to Zedra that their resignation was not on the form that HMRC provides. It was on a wierd document disigned, I suppose, to justify the cost with minutes of of one item meeting and loads of signatures.
I was doing a paper request for probate in order to get a reply saying that no probate is needed for spouses. I think that's what firms like pension providers want. I added a copy of an email reply from Zedra, stating that their statement would do instead of the usual form.
A month later, Zedra sent a resignation on the usual HMRC executor resignation form, which I have kept in case useful. As for the result of my paper application, nobody yet knows. It takes at least 16 weeks.
