Bench Accounting

"Avoid If You Want Your Books Done In A Timely Manner"
I see that I am one of many struggling with getting my 2023 books wrapped up. I have been back-and-forth with the bookkeeper. She keeps asking for more paperwork and then kicks the can down the road for the accounting department to deal with. The accounting department is waiting for her to complete the books, so they can begin filing the taxes. This is an absurd merry-go-round. I am currently awaiting a contact for the supervisor. We'll see if they provide it. This is truly scary for a new small business.

"Our books from last year are still not…"
Our books from last year are still not wrapped up. We have continually asked emailed, texted without a resolution. This is going to extend our tax bill and planning. Do not recommend!

"Used Bench since 2017, can't get my 2023 books wrapped"
I've been using Bench since 2017 and always recommended to friends who were also creative freelancers. It took the weight of dealing with finances off of my plate and helped me a lot over the years, however there has always been a rotation of book keepers. I never know who I will be talking to next, which makes it difficult because no book keeper actually learns my expenses and routines and I have no relationship with them. I've never had such a problem getting my books wrapped until this year, and I see that many people are having the same problem, which is alarming. My latest book keeper addressed me by the name of the woman filling in for her, as if she doesn't even know who the client is. I can't schedule a call with her, there's no option anymore. I've e-mailed the client care e-mail with no response. I will be switching from Bench this year after 6 years and I still don't know when my 2023 books will be done. Unfortunate that this company went downhill.

"8 months behind on books"
It's mid-March, and I still don't have my year-end financial package from 2023. I've diligently responded to my bookkeeper's messages and categorized expenses every month. In January 2024, my bookkeeper left Bench, and I discovered that my books had not been completed since June 2023.

"Concerns: Turnover and efficiency "
I’ve been working with Bench for over a year and have not yet gotten fully comfortable with the services. I’ve had consistent turnover in my bookkeepers, and was just notified that my annual tax filings would not be filed in time, and an extension is necessary. This, even though the bookkeepers have confirmed they have had everything they’ve needed for my last fiscal year for over a month and a half. Disappointing. That said, the books are largely accurate, and haven’t needed excessive correction on a monthly basis.

"Do NOT trust this team - hire an actual accountant"
Under no circumstances should you trust your bookkeeping to this team.
For all of 2023 I have been paying $299/mo and categorizing expenses, and as of 2 weeks ago I come to find out there's been no work for the entirety of 2023 done. Odd, because every month had said expenses categorized and then they blanket update historically to say they're not complete.
If you hire this team, you will be left high and dry. Do yourself a favor and hire someone else who treats customers professionally.

"Once a month I have to sit at my…"
Once a month I have to sit at my computer and help figure out what expense categories some items are. I cant imagine paying a full time employee to do the job Bench is doing for me. It seems best if I just trust Bench and not worry about my accounting and that's hard to do. Bench is doing my personal and business taxes for last year and Im not really sure how thats going. I have to pay the state of Arizona monthly for all of the retail tax I collect on the Arizona website. I am sure my taxes need to be entered there as well and I have no idea if I am suppose to do that or Bench tax advisors do it. Its March 8th and I normally would have all of my taxes done by now. My Bench team member left on Maternity leave. I have had at least 3 other team memebers leave Bench and pass my account on. Each time i let my team member know about my Google Sheet where I track everything. But I havnt seen anyone login to the sheet for a long time now. This doesnt make sense how they know what my business is doing and where the money is coming and going from. $532.49 I pay Bench and hope it is a wise investment. I think after my taxes are done it will make more sense to me what Bench is doing for me. Lots of times when i look at the accounting Bench has done it will say like $7000.00 on hand. Not sure where that comes from. But if this is what it takes to keepy my business operating legally. I will keep blindly throwing money at it.

"It's been great turning my bookkeeping over to Bench!"
It's been great turning my bookkeeping over to Bench and knowing it will be done well, so I can focus on what I love to do. I appreciate how easy the Bench platform makes it to find what I need and to provide what the team needs. I also like communicating on the platform with my dedicated contact.
