"Unreliable"

Some days ago I got a quote, (£165.00 +VAT), and a date, confirmed by email dated 2 March, for GT Sealants to reseal our hand basin and shower.

"Hi Alan,

We can do it in the afternoon on Monday the 13th March.

Regards

Christian Kennedy
Operations Manager

The afternoon of 13 March came, and went. No one turned up, no one telephoned to tell us there was a problem. And today (14 March) no one has telephoned to apologise or explain.

Update 15/03/23

The company phoned, having seen the review, and explained that despite confirming the appointment by email, they had neglected to schedule someone to do the job.

It was suggested that, had I phoned during the afternoon of the 13th, they would have discovered the error and told me no one was coming.

That leads to the question the company might answer for prospective clients. When you have an apparently confirmed booking, morning or afternoon, at what time should the customer ring to check someone was coming?

We thought afternoon meant anything from 1:00 ish to maybe 5:00, and at 3:30 and a bit later were still expecting someone might arrive. Phoning then would have achived very little - we had already stayed in all afternoon, unnecessarily, in expectation.

GT Sealants may very well do competent work, but any potential client should perhaps consider ringing them mid-morning or mid-afternoon to check that the job, though seemingly confirmed, had been booked. Or they could try another company in the hope it is more reliable.
