Ship Cars Ltd

"A disaster from start to finish. NEVER AGAIN."
I'm afraid to say that my experience with Ship Cars was a disaster from start to finish. I engaged their services to transport a Land Rover from the UK to the USA. Due to Nikki not carrying out due diligence and not obtaining a SIEL license, the first ship sailed without my vehicle on board. In the meantime the shipping price went up, so I was obliged to pay the difference. When the vehicle was inspected for the next sailing approx 3 weeks later, it was siezed by HMRC because the paperwork was incorrectly filled out. This cost another two months whilst the vehicle was being released. I was astonished when Nikki asked me to pay the 750 UKP to release the vehicle, despite the error being documented as her fault. After a strongly worded email, she agreed to pay the fine to release the vehicle. In the meantime the vehicle developed a flat tyre, and cost me another 100 UKP to have spare tyre changed. As a result the vehicle sat outside in the UK weather and developed rust in several areas that was not present when the vehicle was purchased.
The vehicle was finally loaded towards the end of January (The vehicle had passed into their charge in mid September) I enquired as to whether or not the US paperwork had been filed, because it needs to be lodged with CPB 48 hours BEFORE a ship sails, otherwise a $5000 fine is levied. At this point I engaged a shipping agent in the USA to clear up the mess left by Ship Cars. When I did this Nikki attempted to charge me even more money for changing the receiving shipping agents details, which was not required, it was just an additional money grab. The whole experience was an utter shambles from start to finish, and what's more no form of compensation was offered for the errors incurred. I cannot warn potential clients strongly enough about this company. I would NEVER recommend them, nor would I use them again. The stress caused by Nikki's slapdash approach to paperwork placed me in a very serious situation with both HMRC and CPB, two extremely powerful bodies. The exposure to potential criminal charges was a direct result of sloppy paperwork and total lack of attention to detail. So six months or stress and worry to ship a car to the USA from the UK. It's shocking how bad the service was from this company and the total absence of any form of compensation despite documented evidence of errors by themselves.
FOLLOW UP: To reply to Nikki's response. It is the shipper's responsibility to establish what documents are required to submit to HMRC, not the client, that is why it would be prudent to ask the origin of the vehicle, and if it is ex-military. You claim you do not ship ex military vehicles, so why was a refund not offered and you could have declined to ship the vehicle? The problem only occurs when paperwork is incorrectly submitted to HMRC. Secondly, Ship Cars incurred further costs because the first boat was missed due to incorrect paperwork, and therefore a hike in shipping costs, coupled with additional storage costs. Thirdly, the photographs and FaceTime walk around of the vehicle prior to purchase showed no rust whatsoever in the areas where there is now rust. This is documented in photographs available on request. Fourth, the puncture was a result of the vehicle sitting at the docks for longer than necessary, and the again, photos provided by the seller show the tires to all be correctly inflated at the time of collection. Had the vehicle been loaded on the first boat, it would more than likely not have happened. The response to my original review confirms the attitude of Ship Cars, in that nothing is their responsibility, and the cash only flows one way with this company. The broker is responsible for asking all the right and pertinent questions, and preparing the paperwork accordingly, that is what a broker is paid for, on that point there is no discussion. It was only after researching shipping a military vehicle that I bought it to the attention of the broker, who then still was unable to complete the forms in the correct manner. So in response to the reply stating that 'I claim to have had a bad experience' I can confirm that I did have a very bad experience, and the arrogance of the person writing that comment demonstrates the level of service provided by this company. Shambolic.

"Literally why would you use anyone…"
Literally why would you use anyone else? Phenomenal service from start to finish from Nikki. This was my first time exporting a vehicle and she dealt with my plethora of questions by email and by phone with endless patience and understanding. She would frequently reply out of hours which was fantastic and gave lots of tips and advice. What I thought was going to be a daunting process actually turned out to be painless and enjoyable.
Am about to book my next vehicle for the end of the month. Wouldn’t use anyone else!

"Efficient, helpful and patient - highly recommended !"
Two years ago I exported a Mercedes to Turkey and have recently re-imported it back to UK. Everything went without a hitch both times; ShipCars organised everything efficiently and promptly for a very competitive price, and Nikki was ever-helpful by both email and phone, patiently explaining the process and calming my worries (I'd never done this before).
For the re-import, she even did the HMRC (Nova) paperwork for me, going "above and beyond" as she'd done several times before. I'd recommend ShipCars without hesitation to anyone exporting or importing a vehicle from/to UK.
