Cold calling unwelcome and annoying, don't know where they got my number from. Ive been receiving missed calls from this number in Wales for about a year or more at various times, and I have continually ignored them because they don't leave a voicemail so I know they are trying to sell something. Once I answered by mistake, then was told they are checking my policy's are all up to date and correct, I asked who they are, they talk fast, I hear the words legal and general which is who my policy's are with, so thought they were part of legal and general. Their sale tactics are obvious, try to be friendly, familiar, try to have things in common so you drop your guard. Ask me about vaping which they also do so we have that that in common, then laughing saying sorry I haven't had my coffee yet this morning, two people said the same thing, must be in the training, my guard did drop, then they proceeded to ask me personal questions in a friendly interested way so I answer, giving them all my personal information. I said don't you have this information on file already? as I assume they are legal and general, he said just checking its up to date, I realised they are not legal and general trying to sell something but I play along with a suspicious tone in my voice. I said why are asking me all this, shouldn't I be talking to my own mortgage adviser, they reply fast with a high pitch OK? at the end of their sentence, which has a sense of pressure and urgency so you feel panicked/flustered to agree and continue. I continue to question, are we actually going through a quote right now for a new policy? another quick reply with pressure in their tone. Then they want me to talk to someone else who is the 'mortgage advisor', he made the same coffee comment, tried to be friendly, his suggestions saved me a few £ a month, I think he realised he wouldn't be making any money from me, then sounded more human instead of a salesman, he did speak slower when telling me who they are, Secured for Life part of Red Dot mortgage advice, which I wrote down so I can check their website, to be fair he did give me some honest advice at the end of the call. I think if they were honest from the start, and were clear that they don't have anything to do with my current life insurance providers, and they are asking to go through a quote with me to see if they can sell me a new policy, I may have felt more trusting, to be honest I would have said no as I'm happy with my policy's, it all just seemed dishonest like they were trying to trick me into going through a quote. They haven't rang me back again luckily.
