"As a fairly new business owner"
As a fairly new business owner, I made the switch to Tax Assist a year ago and I must say I am very pleased I made the switch. (It's also really nice to know my account are in the hands of a professional and not winging it myself like I was before).
Alan and his team have gone above and beyond to help me organise my accounts. From explaining how everything works to helping me incorporate the business. I've found Tax Assist to be professional (yet also very personable), accommodation and patient.
In addition to helping me saving potentially thousands in tax going forward, they also helped me at short notice when I needed to finalise my tax return for a mortgage application. I am very grateful for their accounting service and look forward to working with them more in the future.

"Avoid Swiss Cottage Branch - appalling management"
Avoid Swiss Cottage Branch
My accountant submitted an incorrect tax return to HMRC. This is because he didn’t take into account that I’d paid off my student loan – he never asked me about this in his diligence before the return was submitted.
I requested a refund of the £288 fee. This was rejected – I was offered a 50% discount for a future tax return and no admission of liability. I asked for a 50% discount on the fee already paid – this was rejected too. I escalated to the official person responsible for complaints at the branch – Kam Nagpal. She ignored my emails altogether.
I submitted a complaint about said accountant to the ACCA. They decided to investigate Kim Nagpal in management but decided this didn’t fall below standard enough to mandate sanctions — but it’s clear that the accountancy regulators don’t have the same powers as say the solicitor’s regulator (the SRA) who is very active generally speaking.
This an extremely poor customer experience to say the least!
Update: still heard NOTHING back from this company. AVOID!
Further update: I received a token response from Kim Nagpal several months later (after the regulator pushed her to) where she basically did not admit any blame for what happened. I responded and no further contact was received. I have since used another accountant at the Farringdon branch who is great and confirmed my last return was completed incorrectly because not all of the due diligence questions were asked properly.

"Maybe ok if you just want you tax return doing"
I contacted them because I wanted a chat about some tax returns I thought I had filled in incorrectly. They contacted me quickly but said that the only way they'd be able to handle my query would be to redo all my tax returns at £540 a pop.
I went to Scott at Gillespie Tax Management instead and he talked me through my last 5 years of tax returns in 45 minutes.

"Avoid, avoid, avoid"
I engaged with Tax Assist Derby Branch in February 2023. I was referred by a friend who had had a positive experience with self-assessment assistance, however my expectations were badly mismanaged. Kam painted the picture that I would be able to easily cover the significant costs of £480 using Tax Assist.
The value of a customer engaging with Tax Assist is they can save you time and money. However, it has cost me hours and hours of my time on the phone to HMRC and telling me what I already knew. I have since been advised to contact my banks and get excel files, highlight specific expenses that they can help to claim back VAT from HMRC. If I had known the amount of time I would have had to invest at the outset on this, I wouldn't have proceeded.
When I complained and asked for a refund, given I received zero value, they told me it wouldn't be possible and then shamelessly tried to lock me for another self-assessment support product despite delviering negative value on the first assessment.
Needless to say, this has left a sour taste in my mouth and if you are looking for this type of service, I would advise looking elsewhere.
