"Worst experience renting - Beware! "
I’ve recently moved to the area and what I thought would have been a smooth transition ended up being one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had.
Recently, I encountered constant misinformation, a condescending approach, and repeated delays while dealing with an acquiring a rental property with Chancellors in the area.
I was in the process of moving in on the 21st of March when I refused to accept the keys to the flat because of the state it was in, leading to a breach of tenancy, emails went unanswered, information failed to be disclosed at appropriate times and the responsibility was repeatedly shifted, leaving me unsettled and frustrated to this day. They then decided they will ‘sort’ out everything and move my start date to the 29th which was already a huge inconvenience and no compensation gained!
Equally, they only officially told me I could withdraw from the process a day before I was to collect the keys (on the 29th). Despite first asking for compensation and soon after requesting my money back when I first refused the keys, so I could source a new property. Unfortunately, because time pressures with starting a new job, they left me vulnerable and so had no opportunity to quickly source another property.
I should also add the process in collecting the keys the second time was obscure in terms of having to get the keys first from their office before seeing the property in person with ‘promised’ work they said occurred the day before (Friday 28th). And they provided no confirmation when / how / who to collect the keys from on the Friday when they were calling me to sign the new agreement by a specific time (which felt pressured). I then had to called multiple times on the Saturday (29th) and eventually got in touch with their head office in order to get in touch with them on how to collect the keys (baring in mind this was very different from the first time).
Now I have to live in a flat when not all of the promised work was done and further issues occurring within a week of moving in because I ‘collected’ the keys.🙄
I should acknowledge that the landlord they are representing has also been useless as the agency could barely get in touch with him.
Perhaps instead of Chancellors focusing on securing multiple properties, they should focus on quality rather quantity.
PS I’m one to name and shame but no one should go through anything like this, considering moving is already one of the most stressful things in life and they had no compassion.
