"Great company"

Great company. Purchases are easy and no fuss. If you have any questions there on it straight away. If there's a company on there platform I order through there app ever time. Why wouldn't you free shares.

"Some potential, but some annoying things too"

We buy Marley Spoon products, and received marketing for Upstreet with our Marley Spoon boxes. It seemed like a positive thing to do - get money back on your Marley Spoon purchases. Sure, why not? Money back is always a good thing.

However, in this case, it hasn't really worked out very well. The money back comes in the form of partial Marley Spoon shares, and Marley Spoon shares have been going down by quite a lot at the moment. This isn't Upstreet's fault of course - they have no control over Marley Spoon's share price - but it's fair to say that this has been a bit disappointing, especially because this is where the bulk of my funds in Upstreet currently are. So while it's building each week I make a purchase, it then slides back every time the Marley Spoon share takes a dive, and I feel like I'm swimming upstream.

I found that Upstreet offers Marley Spoon bonuses, but only when you purchase via Upstreet. This wasn't clear.

Upstreet offers two other ways to earn partial shares: buying goods at particular retailers via the Upstreet app, and the "Moonshot".

I've explored some purchases via Upstreet, including through things like eBay. It was potentially appealing to be able to use an eBay discount code, and then get cash back as well. Of course, it doesn't work that way. Accessing eBay via the Upstreet app means that many of the better eBay discount codes are not available. Now, this is probably fair - it makes sense to not allow double-dipping from a business perspective - but it's not really disclosed anywhere obvious. It may be hidden in terms and conditions somewhere. Exploring other retailers via Upstreet also shows that the pricing is quite different via the Upstreet app. Not all of them, though - I just visited one site via Upstreet and separately via my browser, and prices were the same. So, perhaps there is some value to be had here for at least some retailers. The main point is that I wouldn't assume that you'll get the best price via Upstreet, even after the cashback via partial shares.

The Moonshot is a thing that resets every 24 hours. You "play" and win partial shares in some random brand. This is usually a small amount, like 5c or 15c, and it's possible to win up to $100, although that's obviously going to be quite rare. Then you get a bunch of emails, saying you just played, and also you can earn more by inviting friends. There are social media accounts out there that only post about Moonshot, and I would find this very annoying if I was following an account that posted this every day.

What is also perhaps not ideal about Moonshot is that the 24 hour period resets only when you play. So if you play at say 8am one day, you can play again the next day from 8am. But, you don't get a notification about this. Instead, you kind of need to remember to check in at that time. If you forget until say 7pm, then that's when the next 24 hour period starts - so the next day you can't play again until 7pm, and you've essentially "lost" 11 hours. A better solution would be to allow one play from midnight to midnight each day, no matter when the person plays. So I find Moonshot annoying because it makes me check into the app at particular times to maximise what you can get from it, and that doesn't really work so well for me.

I offer this feedback not so much to complain (although I know it'll sound like that), but to highlight issues that I've come across in the hope of improving the product. I think there's some promise here, which is why I'm persisting with it despite these issues.

What might also be nice, and might not be allowed under the current model or regulations or whatever, would be to put some more money into shares if they're doing well. So, let's say I have partial shares in a particular product - allow me to buy more if I want to. Again, I don't know if this is actually possible, and is not a part of my rating. Instead, just offering this as a thought to the app owners.

Easy to setup and get rewarded for shopping. In only a few months we have $60 worth of shares in Marley Spoon that will grow over time.

"Great customer service"

I have not been receiving any shares for my Marley Spoon purchases and Upstreet responded to my rather testy review with a friendly phone call. Hopefully, I will get the rewards I have missed. It was apparently due to changing the account I use to pay Marley Spoon. Who knew that would happen???
