I used the services of TPO around 3 years ago initially as a professional check of how I was managing my own money. The report was comprehensive covering not just my selection of funds but also the various benefits and faults of each provider.

The recommendation was to transfer some of what I had to a new provider to improve flexibility before my retirement but also to tailor the investments to when I would be likely to draw them which seemed sensible. They highlighted 2 of my policies as having special benefits and to keep them in place.

"Start wasn’t bad but then silence"

Initial consultation was fine and the area of interest was discussed. The proposal arrived and when I read it I realised that I can do 99% of the proposed items myself and looking at the fee structure I decided against going any further. The initial fee is very high and in the current economic situation I just couldn’t justify it. The biggest thing is that since receiving the proposal and declining it there has been NO further communication from TPO, not even an acknowledgement of not using them. The warm and fuzzy feeling just isn’t there.

"Very poor service"

I was a client for a number of years without problem. Last year I had to chase them for the usual annual review of the investments. Nothing happened and after further chasing I was told I was no longer entitled to this unless I paid a lot more; I had received no notification of a change to the service. I complained and was then told it was a mistake and the change only applied to new customers. However, the review was still not done. When I chased again, they contradicted themselves again I said I could not get the review. What staggers me is the casual ease with which they could tell me one thing and then the complete opposite, without any sense that this is completely unprofessional and fundamentally undermines trust. I made a complaint but was most unhappy with the response, so took a complaint to the Ombudsman who instructed them to award me compensation.
