"National Trust holidays are a mixed…"
National Trust holidays are a mixed experience.
We booked two this year aiming to be close to a beach.
We just came back from the last one in West LLansallos in Cornwall.
The house is spacious and well decorated and furnished and would have been fine except for a few problems:
On our second night a pipe burst in the downstairs bathroom spurting water throughout the ground floor. There were no instructions as to how to find the shutoff valve which took us some time to locate and then it took four people and all of the towels in the house to mop up the flood. We called the emergency number and the service they provided was awful. They could not even transcribe our phone number correctly.
The caulking around the shower was leaking water which was damaging the ceiling in the hallway. We pointed this out to the plumber who caulked the shower when he repaired the pipe in the bathroom.
We were very disappointed that once again the description of the cottage misrepresented its proximity to the beach. The description of the cottage says it is a short walk to the beach. It is 30 minutes along a very uneven quite steep sloping path. My guests said that to describe this as a short walk to the beach is “ridiculous”.This is the second National Trust cottage that we had had this description problem with this year. It is poor practice to lure people to stay in accommodation which is misrepresented like this.
It is also very disappointing that they do not seem to care very much about the poor standards -- judging by the weak reaction to the lack of an effective response/apology for the disruption and misleading their guests. Indeed even months later the description on the first cottage we stayed in is STILL misleading -- saying the coastal path is on the Doorstep !!! A doorstep several fields and a twenty minute walk away.
So much for "Trust"

"Dunster Castle Rip Off!"
Visited Dunster Castle on Wednesday 2 August, 2023. Firstly, despite it being their OWN car park, the trust is happy to charge £5.50 to non-members (£11.00 if you have a motorhome). Then, as a single adult, I was to be charged £16.00 for entry. While I think the entry fee is rather steep for one person, I'm appalled at the grasping nature of the trust to charge so much for parking. (If you're going there drive into town where parking is FREE and walk up to the castle.) I was so disgusted that I came home and watched a couple of Youtube video tours of the place. I'm now totally done with the NT.

"Kingston Lacy."
Kingston Lacy.
I was walking with my dog along the road at the back of the estate when my dog went into the gate onto the estate. I was just about to put her on her lead when a woman working on the public road but an employee shouted, get your dog on a lead. I replied give me time to, to which she replied are you a member, this is private property. I said yes I am a member, so have paid to come in. This resulted in a, have you scanned your card, which by the way is on the other side of the estate which I do on the way back to the car. there proceeded to be a long, one sided conversation form her on why I should ( I do ) scan the card.
Please National Trust. Can you provide training on how to speak to members of the trust, especially when people are actually standing on a public road.

"BEWARE SCAM ALERT !!!"
I recently attempted to use a National Trust car park operated by Ring Go at East Soar, South Hams, Devon. Upon attempting to pay the charge using the phone app I was victim to a scam. This resulted in me having to cancel my banking card to stop any payments going through. These payments would have resulted in a debit of £29.99 plus every month thereafter. I investigated this problem with Ring Go and their app being insecure and it is plain to see this is happening all over the country using the telephone number to pay at any of their car parks. I have request to know what you are doing or propose to do about this but I won't hold my breath. This has caused me and many other people untold stress.
The National Trust should be ashamed of themselves for using such incompetent imbeciles in operating their charging system at their car parks.
WILL NEVER, EVER USE ANYTHING ASSOCIATED WITH THE NATIONAL TRUST AGAIN !!

"First of all me and my family went to…"
First of all me and my family went to Crome and we were in the cafe and we had loads of wasps around us and we had to keep fanning them away. Secondly we had to leave behind out food and drink because we couldn’t stay there. We wont be rushing back any time soon.

"Emmett's"
I visited Emmett's today and very much enjoyed the 2pm tour based on the history of the garden and its owners. I noticed a great many new developments to engage children with staff who went out of their way to be helpful. I would just please request that the roses were more accessible in the rose garden, an iconic part of Emmett's; in previous times people have been allowed on the grass. I understand deer have access to the rose garden too and cause damage. Could this damage not be prevented by deer=proof fences?

"Ham House - You have to pay to go into their cafe!"
My husband and I have had joint NT membership for many years. Yesterday my daughter and I wanted to go into the Orangerie cafe at Ham House. We were asked to buy an entrance ticket for my daughter (£14!) because the cafe is within the Ham House grounds and she wasn't the second adult on the joint membership. Who in their right would pay for going into a cafe?? The ticket lady claimed that they would be "overrun with people" if they allowed an "extra" person in: we only wanted the cafe and, anyway, my daughter would not have been an "extra" because my husband wasn't there and there were still only two of us. In the event we left and went to Petersham Nurseries a few minutes down the road where we had a lovely lunch. Plus I will cancel our NT membership. I have Tate membership which is for me plus one guest and I think it is high time the NT showed some flexibility and introduced the same. They seem to be working on the assumption that people will just pay for an extra ticket: instead they are shooting themselves in the foot. The £60 we spent on the lunch could have been theirs.

"Very frustrating experience trying to…"
Very frustrating experience trying to renew membership with gift cards. Still unresolved despite one visit to NT property, 2 calls and one unanswered email from 6 days ago.
Losing the will to renew!

"NT deletes my records and no response trying to renew membership!"
I have tried to renew my membership but my details have been deleted along with membership records. I see they have a new computer system so I wonder if there is a glitch. I have tried to contact via email the membership team providing all info and got what looks to be a generic response asking me to provide all the details- each one requested was in the first email. If not generic then no one actually read the first one. A few more emails resending this and so far nothing. I am also raising the issue as to why they have changed the terms for senior member discount without notifying members. It was 3 years pre 60 to qualify now it has become 3 consecutive years. Given i still cannot renew and was also not advised of this change, i trust when the time comes they will honour my 3 years. Not too impressive, NT.

"Parking places are much to…"
Parking places are much to expensive. There are nowhere any parking places at the seaside , which are reasonable priced. The nature is for recreation for the everyone .I can't afford these high prices if I would like to go for a walk more often I find it disgusting to take money of the people who want to experience nature and recreate in it The nature isn't a zoo. It is our right to visit it.
