"Absolutely unprofessional, strictly do not recommend, time and money waster"
My daughter booked driving lessons with A1 Driving School, and her instructor was Afsana. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a terrible experience due to Afsana's unprofessional behavior. She was consistently late to every lesson, and she would bring along the previous learner, requiring my daughter to drive them back to their house as the first part of her own lesson. This was time my daughter had paid for, wasted right from the start.
During the initial lessons, Afsana covered the basics of driving, but once my daughter was on the main roads, Afsana’s focus completely disappeared. She would spend most of the lesson on the phone, chatting with her daughter about what to cook for dinner that day. This behavior was absolutely unacceptable. There were multiple occasions where she would instruct my daughter to drive to her (Afsana's) house so she could grab something to eat. My daughter was essentially paying to be Afsana's chauffeur. It didn’t stop there—Afsana would often take my daughter to places like Greggs and make her wait while she went in to buy chocolate éclairs and coffee. Is this what’s considered professional behavior?
Throughout the lessons, Afsana would be on the phone, having conversations with family members, discussing topics like food and shopping instead of focusing on teaching my daughter how to drive. Even when my daughter informed her about booking a driving test, hoping this would push Afsana to focus on teaching essential maneuvers, she was reluctant. She did eventually teach a few maneuvers, but she mostly continued to ignore my daughter during lessons.
The situation got worse when my daughter was 15 minutes late for one of her scheduled lessons. Afsana claimed she had waited outside and left because my daughter was late, and she insisted on charging for the full hour. My daughter, being considerate, accepted this, thinking it was understandable, although I found it unfair. Afsana could have simply waited the full hour and given my daughter a 45-minute lesson. After all, she charged her £30 for the hour anyway. Still, my daughter paid her for the missed lesson and even doubled the payment for the next one.
Following this, Afsana scheduled another lesson but didn’t show up. My daughter had informed her workplace that she wouldn't be available due to this lesson, so she ended up losing out on work. When she called Afsana, she casually said she had forgotten about the lesson. My daughter, trying to be reasonable, rearranged the lesson for another day, only for Afsana to forget again. At this point, my daughter was very frustrated, as she had to rearrange her work schedule twice to accommodate Afsana, who failed to show up both times.
After this, my daughter messaged Afsana, explaining how unprofessional her behavior had been, especially considering that she charged my daughter the full rate when she was late by just 15 minutes. My daughter pointed out that if Afsana’s time was valuable, then so was hers, and that she had been left waiting twice after rearranging her work schedule. She asked Afsana for a free complimentary lesson as compensation for the inconvenience. Afsana’s response was dismissive, stating that it "doesn’t work like that," and she would not be providing any free lessons.
I am absolutely appalled by Afsana's conduct. She took advantage of my daughter’s politeness and used her driving lessons for personal errands like trips home and snack runs, all at my daughter’s expense. She barely taught her anything useful and had the nerve to charge her full price for subpar lessons. Afsana’s behavior is exploitative and unprofessional, and I firmly believe she should be reported to the driving instructor agency. Someone like her, who doesn’t take their job seriously and mistreats young, inexperienced learners, should not be allowed to continue in this profession.
