"Avoid Avis at Dublin airport - not trustworthy at all"
I had a really terrible experience here. The pick up location is dark but I checked the car, photographed the marks I saw and left. When I returned the car, the Avis rep was immediately really unfriendly and I have never before had such an inspection. It normally involves a quick walk around and an answer to the question " was everything ok". This time the rep was standing there waiting with a white strobe light to inspect the car ( of course no such light available on pick up.....) and gleefully identified marks and seemed disappointed when she discovered that they were already on her card. She persevered with her strobe lighting forensic level inspection until she finally found what she was looking for - marks that were not visible to naked eye and to be honest, barely visible even with her torch. They knew I had my own insurance but still asked me about three times whether I had cover. I am convinced it's an Avis operated scam to get 3rd party insurance companies to pay for their existing damages.I will not use them again. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

"My husband booked a car for me on line…"
My husband booked a car for me on line with full insurance and when I arrived to the airport the guy of Avis desk told me that we did not have any insurance. I contracted an nsurance only for yhe car in order not to have troubles. When I returned the car back I claimed but the Avis agent told me that it was not possible to refund the insurance double paid because I signed and confirm the insurance terms. They gain money by lying people specially when people comes fron other countries with difficulties to understand. Never more with Avis!!! As I have seen it is not the first time. Most of people claims similar situations on forums.

"Added insurance without my will"
Chose Avis just because they answer back to all negative complaints on Trustpilot. So what went bad?
I got charged for car insurance even if I said I don't want it. Problem is I signed for it. :) (JUST HAVE A LOOK AT THE TOTAL AMOUNT before you sign). Can't believe these things happen in a main airport in a western country. Conversation went like this:
Me: No, I don't want insurance
Guy: Ok, so just the car.
Me: Just the car.
Result: got the car insured.
For future customers:
- watch how you communicate
- check what you sign
- take pictures of all the scratches as they will look(not sure why they looked at mine, if it was insured)
- spit that old guy at the counter in the face :)

"Hired a car in cork airport this week"
Hired a car in cork airport this week
The customer service was amazing and the girl was very helpful.
The car was bigger than I expected but very clean and comfortable. The kids enjoyed the suv/jeep experience.
Overall a good experience just a little unsure as to when the fuel deposit will be returned

"Given a wreck of a car !!"
Hired a car on 23 December. Seat Leon. 106k kms on the clock. Rattled and vibrated. Horrible !!!!! Took us 1 hour from landing to driving away / painful process

"Dont!"
Upfront payment for the car, asked if I wanted the car to be insured (of course I said yes). Was told the amount I was paying at the time would be fully refunded.
Guess what, not all refunded. Cost of the car hire doubled due to services I never asked for, contract unclear. Avis hiding behind the contract as the costs being valid.
Underhand sales tactics and not a fair customer experience.

"We had fully purchase a rental car…"
We had fully purchase a rental car voucher online prior to our trip to Ireland only to find out that Avis charged us too...almost to the penny for the voucher rate. Voucher comp says extra charges were for additional insurances at €8 a day and a fee of €26 to waive the comprehensive coverage because my credit card covers this (and I had that letter with me) Fees wasnt explained for the additional rates at time of signing in airport. They said e-sign here so I did. This doubled the cost of the rental. Very deceptive practice I think they use when you book through a third party

"Avis are a shocking outfit - don’t use them"
This is the most shocking and unprofessional car hire company I have had the misfortune to use to date. I would advise people not to use this company. I will also be advising my corporate business to pull our company business from ever using budget rent a car or Avis as they are not to be trusted. They think very little of the customer - shame on you Avis and your business principles.

"To all readers"
Be warned, keep out. To all readers, please be extremely careful with renting with this company, this is by far the worst experience I've ever had. We had fully purchase a rental car voucher online prior to our trip to Ireland only to found out on our return from holidays that they have double charged us. They told us that the extra charges were for the full cover which was added to our agreement, without any explanations and having us signed the paper, of course in a hurry after a very long flight. Partly our fault for not having questioned their integrity and read every line in detail but we were far off thinking they would be so sneaky. this left us with a 800 euros surplus to our holiday, needless to say we were very unhappy and the response from their customer service was outrageous and uncourteous. AVOID is my advise.

"Faulty car and dodgy practice re excess charges"
Nearly all car rental companies come out badly on these kinds of reviews so you end up going on your own experience. I'd rented from Avis in England a few months ago so I went with them though they are long way from the cheapest. On the good side, I did get the model I'd actually booked (this is not common), the staff were polite though there was some messing about with who dealt with Avis and who with Budget. So far, so minor and, happily, it wasn't very busy so I didn't have much of a wait. Returning the car was more hasslesome involving some pretty unnecessary queueing just so an 'agent' could tell me all the paperwork was completed
The key problems were:
a) the car was malfunctioning - a problem with the drive train which made the car judder under load. This didn't show up in the kind of slow driving you do when in unfamiliar situations and I first thought it was road surface. I had to get to Monaghan and didn't have time to get the car replaced so did the 300 km round trip wondering if I would make it back
b) they actively disabled the in-built satnav so they could attempt to charge me extra for it! Outrageous gouging IMO given the car came with it
c) charging the whole 2000 euro excess to my card at time of rental. This is just another way of pressuring you into taking their overpriced extra insurance

Just responding to the Avis comment (though I'm not sure why I'm bothering)...
* I don't see much point in providing you more detail about the car and the rental agreement. This just gives me work to do with no benefit to me. You should have better quality control methods which prevent faulty cars being provided to new renters.
* I don't remember seeing the proposition that you would charge the whole of the excess to my credit card at the beginning of the rental (though no doubt it was there somewhere in the documentation). My complaint is that you were doing it AT ALL. This means that you already have my money and I have to fight to get it back from you. Totally unreasonable transfer of liability in my opinion
* I note that you don't comment on your trick of disabling the supplied sat nav feature so you can unreasonably try to charge me to put it back again
