"Ill-Thought Out Induction"
Engage should've provided free snacks and free lunch to everyone. Even sandwiches, juice boxes, a fruit and a muffin would've been fine and not expensive. As it was, it came across as Engage being cheap and the event ill-planned. All inductees should've worn name tags that said: "Name: " then below "Area: " e.g. Kent. (A possible additional name badge could've shown their country of origin: "Country: " e.g. Canada.) In this way, inductees could link up with others in their area and exchange contact details - which I assume was the second most important reason for our induction. It really served very little purpose making friends with inductees located across the country, even if they were from the same origin country. Also, there should've been a map on the wall in each room showing (i.e. outlining or highlighting) the Areas for each representative, so that one could make friends with those in an adjacent area, if not the same area where we'd be working. Furthermore, Engage representatives for each area should've made sure that their inductees were all together and in the same room as them, to assist them locating their representative to have their questions answered. Engage representatives should also have on name tags (perhaps written in a different colour pen to differentiate them from the inductees) with their Area of representation written below their name. Many inductees had no idea how their representative looked and easily got them confused with other representatives and or inductees because they had only met them in person briefly that morning. Representatives should've even sent a group e-mail to all their inductees copying everyone to show their e-mail addresses (i.e. not bcc-ing) so that everyone could be aware of who else was in their community area. This is how an Engage teacher community for each area could be established effectively. As it was, I only found one person in my area and exchanged details with them. Speakers at the event did not introduce themselves prior to taking the stand and starting to talk. One had to deduct who they were when others called them by name. There was insufficient time with the HSBC and Orange Genie partners. They should've stayed behind for a few hours with a booth or table set-up in the building to set-up accounts and clarify things. Engage could've provided minibuses from each area for all inductees to carry them to and from the Induction. The Induction could've been postponed rather than holding it on a day when the metro wasn't working to and from Moorgate Station. Many inductees had no idea that you need a special card to pay for London buses and were forced to take a taxi or Uber to and from their train to their Area.
