"Not customer orientated in case of dangerous weather conditions"
This activity agency from Sri Lanka has unfortunately spoiled my great vacation a little. I booked a hike in Horton Plains through them and had to pay $55 in advance.
A few days before the activity, it was indicated that the weather could be very bad and that is exactly what happened; we caught a period in which it was consistently damp, very foggy and rainy. I realize that you are not entitled to good views and vistas when you book a hike. However, if life and limb, i.e. health, are at risk, that is something else.
In Europe, no mountain hike would have taken place under these weather conditions. At the Horton Plains entrance, 75% of all other cars also turned around.
I am happy to include a few impressions of what it looked like. But unfortunately it is not allowed to post links here. Be sure that the fog was really strong, the ground very sliddery and it was rainy.
Imagine if the guide or I had slipped, got lost or something else had happened to us in the weather conditions...
Rapid Adventure states in their terms and conditions that only they can cancel something. So they make themselves the decision maker and do not allow the customer any say.
Local guides in Sri Lanka can be canceled free of charge at any time.
I contacted the agency in good time to cancel the hike or find another solution. Ultimately, they didn't even have to send their guide to Horton Plain, so they saved on accommodation and labor costs, which they didn't reimburse me for. They offered me to do an activity instead. But one of them wasn't on our route plan at all, because all accommodation and other activities were booked. And the second would have taken place on the last day on the way to the airport.
Based on their own homepage offer, I asked whether we could do the safari in Udalawale or a dolphin and whale boat tour in Mirissa instead. They didn't even respond to the former. Regarding Mirissa, they said boat tours only take place between November and April. Very funny, because we easily found a provider in mid-October and even saw dolphins and whales at the same time. So it was a blatant lie from the agency. After that, the matter was over for me.
Since then, there has been practically radio silence and no willingness to compromise. They did not respond to the idea of a 50% discount or anything else.
That cost me a lot of nerves during my vacation. Always insisting on their terms and conditions, which are also illegal (in Germany), is neither customer-oriented nor friendly.
Therefore, I would like to warn anyone who might be interested in doing an activity with them. It may be that the quality is good when the activity takes place. But in a problem case, their stubbornness and purely money-oriented thinking becomes apparent. I have now been cheated out of $55, I have been confronted with lies and even my solution-oriented approach did not help.
So it is better to stay away from this weak agency.
P.S. Update after the response here on Trustpilot of the agency:
* as always they didnt comment on the Udawalawa option, which was offered on their platform. It would have been soooo easy to offer me that as it was on our way.
* they are referring to the day before where probably someone else did make the tour. But it is not just about doing and being able to make something, but especially if it is save. And when it is sliddery and figgy, it is never ever recommended to make tricky hiking tours
* The Mirissa tour provider is a well established company which more than 200 positive reviews. So not risky at all and both the boat and the crew were well equipped.
* as you can see, it was not possible to find a compromize in any way. Although the guide didnt have to come to Horton Plains and was able to leave the town one day before, Rapid Adventure didnt let me participate in regards to the saved costs. So the agency got 55$, from my side and had less expenses as the guide caused less costs.

"Beautiful nature experience "
Wonderful experience! We loved that it was a laid back experience where we could enjoy the beautiful views and natural surroundings. Unfortunately we couldn’t stay for the snack or restaurant t after (our driver was waiting) but it looked like such a beautiful location and we hope next time we can enjoy this area more.

"Our First Kayaking Experience"
We chose sunset kayaking in the Negombo lagoon. It was our first time having a kayaking experience, but the team made sure we have the knowledge to row and navigate beforehand. We felt safe as there was a guide and a rescuer with the group. Dutch Trails is a great location too. We didn't know about the restaurant, otherwise, we would have planned to come for lunch or dinner as well. Overall, the location, team, and experience were splendid. Keep up the good work!
