"My trip to Greece was cancelled by Gate…"

My trip to Greece was cancelled by Gate 1 and British Airways due to COVID 19 more then a year ago . I still have to receive the check with the money from the airline ticket witch was refunded to Gate 1 according to British Airways I'm still waiting for the check to arrive after filling a complaint with BBB. Please to not book any trips with Gate 1 They are not truthful and fool you around yet using your money . Stay away from them !!

"Excellent company"

Excellent company. We have travelled with them 6 times and have been very happy. The guides are happy to deal with any problems that arise and even respond to "special requests". They found us a pharmacy in India, got emergency medical treatment in South Africa, arranged a special rug trip for us in Nepal, and arranged a stopover and hotels in Istanbul when we went to Jordon and Israel with them. Excellent hotels. Good value and the best service imaginable.

5 wonderful trips with this company and never disappointed. Hotels 3 and 4 stars and Athens 5 star (view of Acropolis from lounge). Guides were so helpful and knowledgeable. Best value.

"Exceptional companyI"

I, too, am writing because I cannot believe all of these bad reviews! I don’t doubt these happened to people but I just wanted to put my two cents worth in! We have travelled four times with Gate One and all have been exceptional. The guides have been informative, the hotels excellent and I consider this company to be a great value for the money. Two of our trips were cancelled last year, one five days before leaving for Costa Rica and a Danube Cruise later in the year. We never even asked for a refund on either because we knew we would be doing both when we could. We have since rebooked the Costa Rica trip for December of this year but were not thrilled with prices for the airline we had originally booked with. The airline was in the process of issuing a refund to them for the cancelled flights and they then sent us our refund. We can now look for better fares.

We have also rebooked our Danube trip for May 2022 and as we just let them keep our deposit from the original trip, it was applied to our new trip. I have looked into other tour companies and just don't see where they are worth the money compared to the value we have received in the past. I am sorry all of these people had trouble getting money back but this pandemic threw everyone and I think they are doing the best they can. It is hard to get through to them on the phone; I was on hold for almost an hour two weeks ago but as things open up, I think that will get better also. We were lucky as our airline did not have a cancellation fee due to the pandemic. My husband and I always travel with five other couples and we will always consider Gate One for our travel.

"Stay away from Gate 1"

Our trip to Ireland with Gate 1 was cancelled last year by the federal government due to COVID. Somehow the fact that the plane never took off was our fault. We were each charged a $200 cancellation fee. Ridiculous. What is worse is Gate 1 never owned keeping the money. They said the airline kept the $$ when we have it in writing from the airline that no fees were assessed to us. Stay away from Gate 1. They are not trustworthy! Do yourself a favor a pick different agency!

I love the Gate 1 response. What a joke. It is Aug 2021 and I still do not have a full refund. And to ensure you understand clearly… per the airline IN WRITING there were NO FEES assessed with our tickets!!

"Was on the Portugal/Spain trip with…Gate1 travel"

Was on the Portugal/Spain trip with Gate 1 travel in March 2020 when we were forced to leave due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Had to fight to get a refund on return airfare from them and their sponsored insurance. Never got it all as the insurance supposedly does not cover panemics. I suggest that one should never buy their insurance. Google and find a trip insurance broker and get your own independent policy from the company that shows you the best coverage for your situation.
This was the first time I had ever taken the insurance with the travel company (would't you know a pandemic would hit) and I will never do it again. I will take the time to search through the options on website insure my trip to get a reliable coverage even if it costs a bit more. I shudder to think what fine print their sponsored insurance would use if one had a really serious issue with health or injury on a trip.

"Wonderful Gate 1"

We had our April 2020 trip to Ireland cancelled and at first I asked for a credit thinking Covid wouldn’t last long. Then in the fall of 2020, I asked and promptly received a refund. We rebooked Ireland for spring 2022. I love Gate 1 and we took three Gate 1 trips in 2019. The guides are excellent, the hotels are amazing and the other guests traveling grew very close on the trip! I cannot wait to travel again and want to travel with Gate 1.

"Horrible entity - do not book travel with them"

We booked a cruise through Gate 1 travel for April 2020. Because of Covid, we were not able to take the trip. We wanted a refund and the Dept of Transportation helped us to start the process of the refund. The airline tickets were booked through Gate 1 for Air France/Klm. Air France says they refunded the $5600 owed us to Gate 1 on November 28, 2020. Numerous calls to Gate 1 have resulted in “we don’t see the refund money”. I asked them to call Aur France since it was good customer service for them to speak to their business partner and they just keep hemming and hawing about not seeing the refund, if Gate 1 were any legitimate travel agency, they should have a direct contact with Air France and Gate 1 should make it their responsibility to help their customers to get the refund. They have not helped at all.

We were avid travelers and have never had such an uncooperative dealing with a travel agency. DO NOT book anything with Gate 1 - they are not a legitimate business since they can not help you should unforeseen circumstances occur. They do NOT stand behind their customers.

"5 Stars for 14 trips and how I was handled with 3 cancelled trips"

I'm writing a 5 star review because I was SHOCKED to see so many negative reviews for Gate 1. I have used other travel companies but Gate 1 is my first choice and I have booked 14 trips with them. Three of them should have happened in 2020 and one spring 2021. All have been cancelled. It took a while, as expected but I either got my money back or had option to have a credit. I received over 2k back and have similar amount on credit. Hopefully I'll be doing Japan in May of 2022. I'll rebook my other two as soon as I'm comfortable with the status of traveling the world. Gate 1 has great hotels, local guides who are ambassadors for their country/city. You get a people-to-people experience. Options to book extra tours or be on your own as hotels are always centrally located for touring on your own. I LOVE GATE 1. Maybe inexperienced travelers giving so many single stars.

I have travelled 3 times with them. I saw them gradually decline from an ok/ convenient travel provider to a low quality , cheap provider. Most people I know who like half decent travel have dropped them. So if you want more for less, they are for you. They will soon be keeping you in tents overnight
