"This is Bad, REALY REALY BAD"

In this times as a student I stoped using this app because I can't pass nearly all of the games!
And, since I bought it with my money I think it's not fair for us not using it at the 100%.

"Worst Upgrade Ever!!!!!!!!"

I have loved and used Spelling City for years. I always found it both student and teacher friendly. Since the change over this winter I HATE IT. I simply can't use it as it is. I can't even access my students test scores without trouble. Today I had to have them show me their screen so I could record scores. I could see last week's scores but not today's. I can't enter over half the words without going to extenuated effort. Unless things change drastically I will not use this product again. I am having to go back to all paper and pencil assignments. So sad. I have always recommended this product to other teacher. I will not anymore.

"Can I give this program zero stars?"

Can I give this program zero stars?

I purchased this with my own money for my students.

Spelling city was awesome. I could pick and choose activities that my students did. Now, I have to assign ALL of spelling or ALL of vocabulary or ALL of phonics, instead of selecting activities that are appropriate for each child.

I am teaching online as students are in tears. They can't get through an activity in the time that we have. They get stuck on games like Aim to Spell and have to go back and redo them. They get assigned a test after one activity, and then have no more assignments for the week.

BRING BACK THE OLD SPELLING CITY.

I WANT MY MONEY BACK.

"This is awful"

This is awful. Is the rest of Learning A-Z like this? The UI is entirely unfriendly, the help section is useless, the games aren't the same, the selection methods aren't the same, the accessibility to the quizzes isn't the same. We were promised that this would be the same, and it definitely is not. I will not be re-uping my subscription, and I would highly encourage other educators to use nearly any other Spelling service.

"Vocabulary A-Z is AWFUL!!!!"

As a Spelling City user for many years, I am truly disappointed in the new Vocabularya-z product we are now using. Spelling City was much more teacher and student friendly, and I have compiled a list of issues my students and I are having with this product.
These are the issues that we would like to see addressed.

• Logging In – Both student and teachers were able to simply login with Google with Spelling City. Now I my students and I have to use yet another username and password. Why is this so? We prefer to login with Google. Also, I can login to my account from the vocabularya-z.com website, but I cannot from the kidsa-z.com website. I keep getting an “incorrect password” error. I should be able to login from either website.
• “Lessons” – These are lists I created, not “lessons.” It is unfair to restrict a product I pay for to only 15 words on a list.* (this has since been fixed to lists up to 30 words) Spelling City limited the number of words to a list to 50. As a teacher, I should be able to decide how many words to a vocabulary list, not your product.
• Definitions – With Spelling City, I had more options for definitions.
o I could choose the grade level and more age appropriate/content specific options were offered.
o I could also easily edit the definitions and sentences when needed. Where did these options go? When I do try to change a definition to match my grade level, there are limited choices. The process is to edit a definition is difficult and does not always work. It is extremely frustrating that in order to change a definition, I have to first delete the word I want to change (that is when the word(s) I want to change are on a list of 15 words), then I have to add a new word. I had to repeat this process 5 times in order to change the definition of “diagnose.”
o There also is no option for part of speech when creating a new word.* (this has since been fixed)
o In Spelling City, students could click on the vocabulary list and see each word and its definition. Students cannot see the definitions with your product. I have to create Quizlet for each list in order for my students to see the definitions.

• Assignments – In Spelling City, assignments were much simpler to assign.
o I could assign activities without having to assign an assessment. Now, I have to assign an assessment in order to assign activities. I do not want to assign an assessment with the activities. I want them to practice their words and take the assessment separately. Like all teachers, I have students who do not complete work, and this assessment creates much confusion for the end of the week assessments.
o In Spelling City, students could complete the assigned activities in any order. With your product, students must complete the activities in a specific order. They do not like this as they like to choose the order in which to complete activities.
o I could also assign a spelling test and vocabulary test as one assignment. Now, I have to set up two separate assignments in order to assign both assessments.
o Students have to completely log out and log back in to see new assignments. In Spelling City, the students only had to refresh the page to update assignments.
o Students could go into Spelling City and complete activities at any time with or without an assignment.
o The “Vocabulary Memory Match” game font is very small and the students find it difficult to read the words and definitions.
o In “Letterfall,” the students have mentioned that the game is glitchy.
• Reports - The reports are difficult to navigate.
o The scores in Spelling City were in were given in percentages, and your product gives scores out of 15.
o I cannot see each assignment and/or assessment separately. In Spelling City, I could view separately the assignments for a particular list. I would like to see a choice to see the results for each assignment and/or test. It is confusing to see list of how many activities my students completed. I want to know if they completed an assignment.
o When I look at the assignments report, I get a list sorted by date. If I assigned 11 activities and 2 assessments to each of my 22 students for one “Lesson,” that is 286 scores I have to navigate through. I should be able to click on an assignment and see the scores. I would like to see the scores for the activities and two assessments separately.
• Transitioning from Spelling City to Vocabularya-z.com Video – Why do I have to register through a third party, gotostage.com to watch this video? I do not want to register for yet another website.
• Website – The website is difficult to navigate.
o Spelling City had tabs to click on to easily find students, lists, assignments, activities, and reports. If I want to assign activities, I have to use the “Lessons” tab. If I want to view assignments or reports, I have to use the “Manage Students” tab.

"I had used Spelling City for probably…"

I had used Spelling City for probably the last 5 years. It was easy to use, the students had fun with it and I didn't mind paying for the subscription each year because I felt the class really learned from it. NOW....it has become VocabA-Z and it isHORRIBLE. It takes so many steps to set up plus many of the choices that once were there are not...I was very disappointed with the new version and I have several parents complain that their student does not want to work with it any longer. I feel that I wasted good money for this. I DO NOT LIKE THE NEW VERSION AT ALL!!!!!!

"Vocabulary A-Z is awful"

Spelling City was great - Vocabulary A-Z is awful. And it is not the same value for our money at all. Bait and switch, as far as I am concerned. I will be keeping my eyes and ears open for news about a class action lawsuit.

"I miss Spelling City!"

Since they changed the format and name of this spelling website…I HATE IT! Besides the fact that it is incredibly difficult to use the website, their word database is pitiful. 95% of the words I try to enter for my kids lists are not found in their database. Really? Words like monkeys, marriage, copier?? Those aren't weird words. They should have refunded everyones money and given us a week to try it out. Such a waste of money. And I'm so sad not to have the useful spelling resource that the original Spelling City website was.

"LOVED Spelling City...Hate Vocabulary A-Z: So sad it changed"

Honestly, we loved Spelling City. It was easy enough to maneuver that my kids could log in on their own, play games, do review tests, and take the tests. I would just assign new lessons that I uploaded, check how they were doing, and print out worksheets/test results super easy...BUT, now they transferred to Vocabulary A-Z. It took me hours to figure out how to log in for the kids, teacher, and parent...too many different pages to deal with, half of my lists disappeared and the ones I did find took forever to locate, it has few games, my kids have no idea what to do...I even e-mailed for help and no one ever responded. Horrible...and they were doing so good with spelling before the switch. Such a bummer...guess we've gotta find a new spelling tool for next year. I didn't even get a full year out of the $ I spent for Spelling City.
