"Avoid "

Was pulled off the street in Malta to ‘view a new hotel’. The Mayflower Hotel in Malta just to be clear. Tout told us that we had to be over 35 which my partner wasn’t so were told to to lie and say he was. Had to view the hotel for no longer than an hour and we would receive a ‘free gift’. 3 hours later and find out it’s a ‘timeshare’ scam. When we said no, and I said I felt I was being pressured, they said not at all. Yeah ok 🙄. We were then offered a 2 year deal to try it and felt that their attitude changed when we still said no. Felt like we were being taken to our death in the basement when we had to be signed out like school children. Would have been better just walking out and dealing with the aggression. We were followed out to the toilet/for a cigarette break so we couldn’t disappear. They are high-pressure sales.I work in finance and know that it’s not cost affective but felt like we had to act dumb in arose to get out the door. Saw someone else getting scammed today and wish I’d warned them but appreciate these people need to make a living

"Access2Leisure Review"

We have been members of Access2Leisure for a number of years and during that time we have enjoyed some wonderful holidays in Malta, Lanzarote, Portugal, the UK and, more recently Spain.
We have visited Macdonalds Dona Lola, near Malaga for the last two years. We enjoyed it so much the first time that we booked up again as soon as we could!
The resort is, in our opinion, the type of resort that we feel A2L should be offering. We have had two very relaxing holidays there in 2023 and 2024. The resort itself offers plenty to do with indoor and outdoor pools, excellent restaurants on site and the Entertainments Team offer a range of activities from wine tasting to walks around the beautiful grounds, as well as trips out. Fuengirola and Marbella are both easy to access using the local buses and Malaga is within reach by bus and train. Definitely one to recommend and I am sure we will return there again.
A2L staff are friendly, helpful and respectful when providing information and advice during the booking process.
The recent upgrade to A2L's website has resulted in a more user friendly facility, making searching for resorts much easier and faster.
As it's extremely cold now in the UK, we are definitely beginning to think of our holiday in 2025!

"Beware: Discover Access Turns High-Pressure Sales into Buyer’s Regret"

Our experience with Discover Access was deeply disappointing and, in many ways, distressing. My elderly parents were approached by representatives of Discover Access in a public setting and escorted to a hotel for what was described as an informational presentation. However, this "presentation" quickly revealed itself as a high-pressure sales marathon that lasted over six hours. During this time, my parents were subjected to relentless persuasion tactics designed to coerce them into signing a membership agreement.

Shockingly, they were asked to make a payment before the contract terms were even disclosed—a clear breach of transparency and fair trading practices. The environment was controlled to ensure they felt pressured and exhausted, which ultimately led them to sign under duress. At no point were they given an adequate opportunity to review the terms or consult anyone outside the room.

When my parents sought to cancel the agreement within what should have been a legally protected cooling-off period, Discover Access refuted this right, claiming that the contract was "non-cancellable" and pushing back against any refund. They dismissed the fact that my parents were approached off-premises (a public area) before being taken to the hotel, which under EU consumer law, typically qualifies as an off-premises contract with a mandatory 14-day cancellation window.

Upon further investigation, it became evident that Discover Access has a reputation for using high-pressure tactics and for taking payments in situations that stretch consumer rights. They appear to have structured their operations to circumvent basic consumer protections, relying on rented hotel spaces and refusing refunds on questionable grounds. The lack of transparency and accountability in their practices is alarming, and they seem prepared to go to great lengths to retain payments, even when customers raise legitimate concerns.

Discover Access's handling of this situation has been nothing short of appalling. The dismissive responses from their representatives show little regard for consumer rights or basic decency. We would strongly urge anyone considering a Discover Access membership to exercise extreme caution and to be aware of the company’s aggressive sales approach and apparent reluctance to honour legal cancellation rights.

Edit 15/11/24 in response to Discover Access reply:

The presentation was not just "longer than usual"—it lasted over six hours, this duration itself is indicative of an unnecessarily drawn-out process, which contributed to a pressurised environment. My parents, like many others, felt compelled to comply simply to bring the ordeal to an end.

You state that all documentation was carefully reviewed and questions were answered before signing. Requiring payment before fully disclosing the contract terms is inherently non-transparent and restricts informed decision-making. Transparency means providing all terms upfront, not after the customer is financially committed.

In your email to me, you directly refuted the applicability of consumer rights to my parents’ situation, which is categorically incorrect. The Maltese Consumer Rights Regulations explicitly provide protections for off-premises contracts, such as this one. You have yet to explain, with any legal basis, how these regulations do not apply. Attempting to deny consumers their statutory cooling-off rights is not just unethical—it is illegal. Forcing customers to sign away these rights, which cannot legally be waived under EU law, is a blatant attempt to gaslight consumers into believing they have no recourse.

Your strategy of requiring customers to sign two contracts—one for 363 days and another for the remaining term—is an evident ploy to circumvent the laws prohibiting taking immediate payments for contracts exceeding one year. You then refuse refunds under any circumstance. This demonstrates a calculated approach to sidestep consumer protections while exploiting loopholes.

Your claim that my parents’ continued engagement indicates comfort is disingenuous. Elderly customers, in particular, may feel pressured to comply out of politeness, confusion, or sheer fatigue. Their attendance at a follow-up breakfast does not erase the undue stress caused by the initial experience.

Despite the above points, you audaciously claim to "follow all relevant consumer protection laws, maintaining a high standard of transparency and compliance in every interaction." These are hollow words when your actions repeatedly demonstrate a disregard for both transparency and legal compliance. It is clear that your behaviour speaks far louder than your reassurances.

"Holiday scam"

Holiday scam - at the Mayflower Hotel in Bugibba. The prey on their victims by offering a bus pass, they then take you to a secured room. Here they hound on you to sign a timeshare contract that lasts hours, they only way out is via a key card. The presentation lasts hours. If you don't believe me. Look on trip advisor and search discovery access. Scam artists.

The accommodation at The Mayflower Hotel Qawara and Sunny Coast Qawara was excellent. Both were as advertised and excellent value for money. Comfortable, friendly and spotless. Staff in both places could not do enough. Both destinations highly recommended.
