"Lensology Broke My Prescription Glasses Frames"
Have given a one star as zero is not an option. I submitted glasses to Lensology for reglazing following an updated prescription. The decision to select Lensology was based on 5 star Trustpilot rating and positive advertising about reglazing.
Approximately a week after submission I received an email saying that they had broken the frames. In the email they said I could select a pair of their designer frames to fit the revised prescription lenses at cost of an extra £80. I advised Lensology that this was unacceptable. I was dissatisfied with the fact that I was being asked to pay extra for new frames and that I wouldn't be able to physically try them on for suitability. I was very happy with glasses I had sent.
As a solution I asked lensology to supply a replacement frame of the same make and type that they had broken. I noted that these were readily available. Lensology refused this request and a subsequent request to refund the £98 cost of an order I have made to another supplier for a replacement frame.
Lensology have rejected my request principally on the basis that I had agreed to terms and conditions which included acceptance of the inherent risk of the frames breaking. It is no surprise that this risk is not prominently identified in their advertising. So if you are thinking of using Lensology check the terms and conditions very carefully before you send off a favourite pair of glasses. Lensology claim that the risk of breakage is rare. But the plastic framed glasses I sent were less than 3 years old, in my opinion were in good condition and were not abnormal in terms of design or prescription. Lensology do not appear to have the equipment/skills to check for hairline cracks etc prior to attempting to reglaze.
I note that Lensology is not registered with the UK General Optical Council and that therefore there is no channel for an independent review of complaints by a professionally recognized body.
RESPONSE TO LENSOLOGY COMMENT ON REVIEW
For my part there is no confusion. In emails to Lensology I have clearly stated that I wasn't prepared to pay extra for a new frame of theirs. So it is irrelevant as to whether I paid more or less than the £80 in the example. The Lensology comment that 'I could be sent frames to try on' is the first time that this has been offered.
In an email to Lensology 28/03/25, that is over a week since this review, I advised Lensology that I had put an order in with another optical retailer to supply a pair of the exact same frames that Lensology had broken, and with my revised prescription lenses. The email had an attached copy of the order as evidence. Lensology have refunded my advance payment for reglazing. So why is the writer of the Lensology comment on the review still suggesting that I order a pair of their frames. This would clearly be ridiculous.
I am asking for a refund of the £98 cost of frames ordered from the new supplier. Is this so unreasonable given that breakage is rare as Lensology claim ?
With regard to transparency perhaps Lensology would like to publish independently verified figures on frame breakages to get a clear picture of exactly how rare this is.

I just had my frames reglazed for the second time, and I couldn’t be happier! It was such a smooth process. I simply popped the frames in the postage they provided and sent them back. The service is fantastic! I even got an email letting me know when they were back, which was a nice touch. All in all, a great experience at a wonderful price!

Thank you so so much for reglazing my little red Lindberg framed glasses. They are absolutely perfect and so much better for me than the off the peg reading glasses I had had. Following my bilateral cataract lens replacement four years ago, I have been struggling with reading near and mid vision with my varifocal glasses even though they had been retested after the op. My optician thought I would be better with some prescription reading glasses and how right he was. The quote for getting these little red Lindberg glasses reglazed at my opticians was almost triple what I paid for you to do them. They are absolutely perfect and I’m recommending your company to everybody.
The speed in which it was carried out was fantastic and you let me know constantly of updates. As you had overlooked putting the prism lens in my glasses and it would take a little bit longer you let me know that you wouldn’t charge the extra and stick with the original quotation which was so kind of you.
I thought you as a company extremely good in the event of having elderly clients – suggesting they use the sticker to close and seal down the box if they couldn’t find any Sellotape. Just little extras and I’m sure this was appreciated by many people. I also loved the two chocolates that were enclosed in the box when they were returned to me. Finish super quick.
I won’t be going anywhere else now for my reading glasses. Thank you so much, Oscar, for a first class service and product and terrific communication.
