My warning to new customers is check the small print in your policy because it may not be what your expecting.
My first policy was in 2019. We are on the Norfolk Broads which is tidal. The question on the form asked "Is your vessel used on inland waters only" Thinking that the Norfolk Broads is an Inland waterway I ticked yes. The truth of the question is it is asking are you using the boat on non tidal waters only. It doesn't say this but that's what they are asking. I didn't know this and it turns out that as a result, for the last 4 years my boat has not been insured despite paying the premiums. You can bet they would be waving the policy in front of my face if I had made a claim.. They now want over £700 ( a jump from just over £400 ) for next years insurance. Another lovely trip hazard is that tidal insurance policies automatically have an exclusion of usage between November and March whereby you cant use the boat. You can get around it by paying a Winter Usage extra payment. Even then the boat must be in a commercial marina or out of the water by sunset each day!
All of this is easily missed so If you are looking for a quote check every box and every entry you make.
If you have tidal insurance with these people check if you have winter use and be sure to be home by dark
We went with Marine Pleasure Craft Insurance. Their wording is straight forward. They make no difference between inland waters and coastal. No winter surcharges either. They were £200 less than Insure4boats. We wont be back
