Hotel Direct were great from start to finish. This is the second time I have used them and both trips went without a hitch and cheaper than booking all things separately.

"Really disappointing after researching…"

Really disappointing after researching for a while and choosing to book with hotel direct.

This trip is for my Mum's 70th birthday surprise - I rang to ask if we could be allocated a table on the train at the time of booking (I've already logged on to LNER and can see that as it stands almost the full train is empty as this is an advanced booking). Despite this the call handler informed me that they cannot do this, and there is no way to change this once booked. But if I did really want this I could pay 100 pounds extra (per person so £200) so that once I've booked I can log on and amend my seats. This option would make what seems like a really reasonable price with hotel direct, become around 50 percent more expensive than booking with the hotel and train directly, all because they were not able to (or happy to) reserve a specific seat on an empty train. Such a shame! I can see those in the reviews who have not required this have had a good experience, shame we could not afford the additional cost of £200.00 for the free service we were requesting. It's all feels a bit like a certain airline who charge low prices but then get your money every which way despite this option being free for customers of LNER.
