I did have concerns about fees though, but when I compared their fees to the other companies that were around at the time, there was very little difference. At the same time, Brett was the only company to put them in writing and also provide the relevant documents to back this up. Now, several years later, some of those other companies I spoke to are no longer around and the service I have received from Brett and his team over the years has been excellent.

I was expecting a sales pitch and a referral to an in house lawyer but was pleasantly surprised to be given some clear, detailed and well explained advice covering areas we hadn't even thought or known about. All with no fee. What's not to like!

We retired to Spain and transferred our life savings to Blevins Franks, Javea, Spain. The Portfolio was the Spanish Compliant Bond, using a diverse range of funds and would cost 1.5% p.a. made up of various charges to manage, these charges were discussed and clearly shown.
After 5yrs of poor to moderate performance, we discovered through a third party that we were paying high Fund Charges amounting to an average 2.05% extra p.a. from which BF were receiving commission, thus taking the total charges from 1.5% to 3.55% p.a.
This equated to over £76k taken in additional charges we knew nothing about!! Fund Fees/commission were never mentioned or clearly illustrated in the Private Client Portfolio, Terms of Business or the Quarterly Valuations provided.
Over time nearly all the money went into their Privee Select and Russell Funds, so hardly a Diverse Portfolio. Our current FA has us in 10 different fund houses using 18 different funds.
The process of trying to establish exactly what fees had been applied and how much money was taken from our account was met with faked stupidity, resistance and misinformation.
Our complaint was passed onto their Compliance and Legal Departments in Malta, who were aggressive, said they had done nothing wrong and immediately blocked any further attempt to contact them via email.
Our advice to anyone considering using BF is to stay well clear and, if you are invested with them check your Private Client Portfolio and Terms of Business for mention of Fund Charges for you surely will be paying them.
