"IAM Roadsmart - Northampton"

I enrolled with the Northampton branch, after speaking with a colleague who had recently passed their Advanced test.
I met with the local group (they meet the first Sunday of Every month in Northampton), the group were open, friendly and just plain enthusiastic and wanting others to enjoy and get more out of their driving.

The process was clear, professional and well structured.There are further opportunities to engage or work with the group. The majority of the members are volunteers, but they are expected to deliver a very professional service, in my case, I was supported very well. the learning experience, taking a constructive look at driving is well worth the time and money. As well as the course booking, you will need to but a couple of books, the Highway code (of course) and Road Craft.

"Excellent. A great experiance and so worthwhile"

I joined the IAM earlier this year at the Scottish motorcycle show and was contacted soon afterwards by my observer to start my observed rides. I have since passed with a first. I found the whole process to be slick and the expertise and support shown by Ronnie, my observer, was excellent. I would highly recommend this to anyone who rides a motorcycle (I’ve been riding since 1983) or who drives a car. Thanks to IAM Roadsmart Forth-Valley Group, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Booked a few courses and found the staff polite, friendly & helpful.

Enjoyed the Advanced Driving so much decided to try Masters, Information packs were very good and arrived quickly.

"I recently did my Advanced driving…"

I recently did my Advanced driving course, and thoroughly enjoyed it. My Observer, John Biggs, from the Kent Group, was really patient and informative, and made our excursions something to look forward too. Professional from start to finish. I have certainly gained knowledge on how to be a safer, and better driver. I really recommend the course.

"I have just passed my Master's test…"

I have just passed my Master's test (car) this week.
Right from the begining it was a very enjoyable experience. My mentor David was professional, knowledgeable, focused and very customer orientated. My test day with Robbie (after the nerve stage) was superb and really enjoyable.
Robbie has a great attitude and made me feel very relaxed within a short time allowing me to concentrate on the drive.
I would recommend this course very highly.

"Just completed my IAM masters…"

Just completed my IAM masters motorcycle course & wouldnt hesitate to recommend this to anyone who wants to take their already advanced status to the "next level".
This course is admittedly not cheap - however when you consider the time spent with your mentor - and the area examiner - represents a real value for money course.

If you want to go as far as possible in your motorcycle riding life - then this is for you - 100%

"Not recommended at all"

Not recommended at all . Paid for course in November 2018,and made numerous phone calls to arrange training unsuccessfully , was passed from pillar to post with no results by March 2019.Finally asked for refund and only then was I contacted by a local trainer with the potential to start any training.Also my request for a refund was initially met with disregard and then took a month to be told I was only entitled to a partial refund due to admin fees .very very unprofessionally ran with no organisation at all from them very incompetent .Unless you want to lose money stay well clear of this company. I also said I can only do Saturdays to which you offered me a Sunday then a Monday then a Tuesday to which I said I can only do Saturdays. you only found me someone once I had been waiting 5 months and complaining all the time about your very crap service. there was no solution offered just past from one person to another. I will never deal with iam again.

"Institute of Administrative Malfunctions"

I think the response from IAM confirms my original review.
Their statement of - "server issues at your end" was in fact proven to be that their outgoing service was not configured with the correct protocols.
The absence of a "bounce-back message" from their email system surely provides confirmation of a "dodgy system".

The letters IAM would, in my opinion, be better suited to the Institute of Administrative Malfunctions.
1 -- Website crashed several times during purchase of Advanced Course, making it necessary to perform transaction by phone the following day,
The on-line financial process simply crashed, providing no indication as to whether money had been taken, or personal details retained.
2 -- IAM confirmation email, in regard to Acknowledgement, Receipt and Notification of Local Group details, failed on a number of occasions over several days.
It appears their email system does not use fully recognised Industry Standard protocols.
3 -- Local Group failed to honour their promise to allocate an Assessor and arrange an assessment drive until several days AFTER the purchase was cancelled.
4 -- Course material (Log Book) was not received until after cancellation of transaction.
Apparently IAM do not soil their hands with such things -- it is outsourced.
5 -- IAM Head Office refused refund due to their "No Refund Policy".
6 -- IAM put forward several "claims" as to their correctness in procedure, yet referred to emails as phone calls, provided incorrect dates for actions by individuals and misrepresented statements made during phone conversations.
7 -- Ms Sarah Sillars (CEO of IAM) displayed a lack of professionalism by not responding/intervening when copied in on emails.

Full refund eventually received, but expense of mailing back (recorded delivery) Course Log Book, an abortive trip to Local Group (50 mile round trip - 2 hours travel) and unnecessary administrative hassle -- makes it all "A definite NEVER AGAIN".
