"Extremely outdated treatment/understanding"

Extremely outdated treatment and understanding of some disorders. I left with more trauma then when I was admitted. I was misdiagnosed even though I came in with the correct diagnosis. I was told that I was faking it because they couldn’t find a root cause of the diagnosis I came in with (even though there is no known cause). This outdated understanding of the disorder led to a misdiagnosis and catastrophe when I was discharged. Staff allowed other patients to bully me and spread rumors about me that were very harmful. Almost all patients there that I have kept in contact with have relapsed.

"Insurance Payment Challenges (Fraud? Scam? Incompetence?)"

I'm neutral on the efficacy of their treatment for my child's anxiety / depression. But their billing and insurance, and least for me, has been an unmitigated disaster. In short, I paid the full $50K treatment cost (first 30 days) upfront and they "graciously" offered to file insurance claims. They filed the insurance claims to PAY THEM not me despite my upfront payment. What? Months later, I am yet to see this money even though insurer has paid them (they are out of network) some $15K+. I have no choice but to think something fraudulent is going on or they are not telling me the whole story. Regardless, they are giving me a runaround, because it should not be that hard to get money owed that is rightfully mine. I have made multiple multiple attempts to get attention from them to pay me and get some resolution. It doesn't matter how good their treatment is (again I'm only neutral on that) if you can't get your insurance payments owed to you. And that is why they deservedly get only one TrustPilot star from me.

"Paradigm SF is a fraud"

I entered Paradigm SF, not with a major substance abuse issue but with lots of trauma and multiple suicide attempts. After my time spent at paradigm (38 days to be exact), I left with more trauma and a recommendation to attend a long term institution.
During my time in Paradigm, multiple staff members joked about my mood swigs, yet never documented it or look into it further. I was just given the diagnosis of major depressive disorder and general anxiety. One month after leaving and seeing a private psychiatrist on a once a week basis, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder (no thanks to paradigm). It is ridiculous that I did not receive this diagnosis while living in view of my therapists and care team. If you are under the impression that paradigm is a mental health facility, you are being tricked it is only a temporary withdrawal faculty for rich teenagers. The one on one therapy sessions were lacking and consisted mostly of "how's your day going," not actual therapy.
The psychiatrist here will simply up your medication because he doesn't know any better and is a poor excuse for a medical professional. Looking for actual mental health assistance? Look elsewhere.
In addition to all this, I was denied my patient rights while attending. I was denied conversations with my parents and denied the ability to speak my native tongue with my parents.
For most of the staff, sure they are nice people but they are inexperienced. At the San Francisco location, this was the first job in mental health for most of the staff. Even the therapists were either brand new or simply filling out their required hours in order to get licensed. For a price tag of a 10k attendance, you should at least receive licensed therapists.
In short, Paradigm SF's staff member Kalani, specifically told me I was a hopeless case. She insinuated I had no future. This statement left me with extreme PTSD and caused me to develop a personality disorder. Thank you paradigm for not only ignoring my problems but creating new ones.
Please do not send your children here, they will likely develop new issues. If you care for your children's wellbeing, send them elsewhere.

"Awful! Not even a 1 star"

These reviews have to be paid for as this place was the worst thing that had happened to our child and every person he met has relapsed and most are worse off. The food and accommodations are nice. They really messed with our child and our relationship. There were several sexual relationships between the kids and the staff ignored it. Please do not send anyone you love to this rehabilitation center. Worst decision of our lives!

"Paradigm saved our son's life"

Paradigm saved our son's life. While the experience, in all honesty, was very difficult for him and for our whole family, it was the needed and right place for our son to continue his journey to healing, The staff recognized the magnificent child underneath the issues and helped him begin to believe there was a cause for hope and to hold on and do the deep, hard work of addressing trauma. As parents, we felt supported and our therapists and staff worked hard to work with us and our son well. I will not say this was an easy experience or that we would ever want to repeat it, but it turned out to be what was needed in our case.

"Simply the Best!"

I don't know what we would have done without Paradigm Malibu. Because our son was having some pretty major med-resistant mental illness, no other short term residential in the area was capable of caring for him after repeated hospitalizations. The therapy we received from Paradigm was life changing for our family. We learned how to share our feelings and emotions with each other, as well as receive them. And, when the specialists at the hospital told me this was as good as it gets, it was our doctor at Paradigm who fought for our son to receive another level of treatment, giving his a chance to get his life back. We have a long road ahead still, but the foundation we built with the support of all the therapists is what we still rely on and we will continue to build on. I would recommend to any parent considering Paradigm Malibu that they release a lot of what they know, maybe even most of what they know, and embrace their alternative ways to approach emotions and behaviors. In many ways, I learned we were doing life the hard way, when it came to how we were relating to one another. While there, I was privileged to witness deep changes in myself and my own family, as well as the same in the other families there. It was a fascinating, beautiful, challenging experience, and I am grateful to have been given the opportunity.

My daughter attended Paradigm when her depression/anxiety were spiraling out of control. She was having suicidal ideation and cutting behaviors, and had disengaged in life completely and I did not know where to turn. I decided on Paradigm and am so thankful I did as I truly believe it helped save my daughter. Her counselors were wonderful and she has had nothing but positive things to say about them. Her family counselor Cameron truly has a gift and has been a blessing to our family. Dr. Neumann, the psychiatrist, was excellent and always selected natural treatments before entertaining medications which I appreciated. The food was delicious and nutritious and they even provided vegan options for my daughter. The setting is beautiful and It is expensive however if you can afford it I believe it is worth the investment. The only negatives are on the business end. My advice would be to make sure you have communicated clearly with your insurance company prior to admittance because you have to pay upfront the day of admission and then it is not a priority of Paradigm to attempt to get you reimbursement. I would not hesitate to send my daughter back to Paradigm again if needed and have already recommended it to other parents who's children are struggling with similar issues.
