I’m usually a very understanding person….I worked for Characters for Hire on 2/24. After some weeks of not receiving my payment, I reached out to resolve my concern. They said it would be sent out via email on 3/15. It was not. I followed up again a few days later and have yet to hear back from them. After reading other reviews about not receiving their payment, I’m getting a little bit worried.

Update:
- Angela sorted things out and I received my payment!! My payment was processed the day they promised……but to the wrong address. Angela helped me receive it to my correct address.
- It took a few attempts of me pestering them via email and phone to finally hear back. It wasn’t until my previous review that I received help.
-I wasn’t able to receive compensation for parking fees because the machine wouldn’t print a receipt and they can only process compensation with a valid receipt. I understand the protocol, so there’s not much else that can be done with that even with other documents regarding the parking ticket. :(

"Booked as Mascot by Characters for Hire"

I was recently booked by Characters for Hire for 2 days of work as a MASCOT for an Exhibitor at a Convention in Orlando.
The Exhibitor provided the Costume. I was hired to show up on time, report to my contact, behave as a professional & follow the VERY strict rules of CFH (imperative for mascots interacting with the public!).
CFP hires actors & performers as independent contractors, therefore a W-9 was included in my 12 page e-sign package.
The specifics of the booking; call time, location, on site contact, etc. were included along with the aforementioned rules, guidelines and expectations.
My exhibitor contact (& her entire team) where awesome, the handler CFH hired was a godsend, the BONUS was finding out my character was a very beloved one that visitors looked forward to posing & interacting with year after year.
As an actor, I enjoyed putting my nonverbal improv skills to work as I interacted, posed & danced around.
I have a lot of experience with events, conventions, etc & our only “glitch” was on the 2nd day with (what I felt was) an overzealous show manager stopping us to say my handler could no longer escort me thru the show floor to the bathroom for my BRIEF costume & potty breaks… WHAT!? Even though I made a point to NOT interact or stop for pictures… because it was giving the mascot extra exposure.
When we texted CFH (their preferred & efficient way to communicate) to see if they wanted us to address this with the client or if the office preferred to, it led to clarification regarding breaks, etc and the remainder of the day went well.
A few reviewers have referred to their interactions with CFH as rude. My experience was nothing less than pleasant, professional interaction… the immediate call regarding the issue mentioned WAS blunt & to the point… but this is a job and I was spoken to as a hired professional, in an attempt to make sure the client was receiving the service they contracted.
Payment was efficient (they stressed turning in the W-9 ASAP) and was received WITHIN the 14 days described. It was sent via email with a choice to collect electronically (for a small fee from vendor). I chose to just print the actual check & scan to my bank like any other paper check.
I work both in FL & NYC/CT Metro areas and would welcome the chance to work with CFH again… possibly not as a mascot, but definitely as a handler or an actor.
