"⚠️ Issues with Worthpoint's "Free Trial""

Worthpoint's "Free Trial" isn't what you might expect.

There are 2 problems:
1. The terms of the Free Trial ;
2. How to Cancel your subscription.

The Terms of the Free Trial state that you are charged after 7 days or after you look up what price 7 different items sold at. THIS PROBABLY ISN'T WHAT YOU EXPECT. Let me explain...

1. My reason for using Worthpoint was that I wanted to know how much my near mint condition 1960s tin plated toy robot to was worth. I signed up for the Free Trial, typed in a description of what I was searching for, and expected to see similar results to an eBay search. And that's exactly what Worthpoint gave me, but with ⬛️⬛️⬛️ displayed in the price sections. The items weren't listed in date order or highest Worth first. They probably do give you tools to help you refine what's displayed (I didn't look)? It was then I realised it's not 7 free Worthpoint "searches", but 7 free reveals of what's under the ⬛️⬛️⬛️ prices. Having signed up I was expecting to see ALL the prices displayed. Instead, I got lots of ⬛️⬛️⬛️s.

I did get the information I needed, but felt they might be trying to trick me into revealing more prices than my 7 sale price lookups allowed. At which point I decided Worthpoint wasn't for me.

2. I now needed to Cancel/End the Free Trial and CANCEL my recurring subscription payments. THIS IS WHERE I SEE MANY BAD REVIEWS ON TRUSTPILOT.

I Googled "Cancel Worthpoint Free Trial" which took me to the FAQs page on the Worthpoint website. Unfortunately, Worthpoint's clear and straightforward instructions on how to end your subscription are completely wrong. They say to sign in, then follow the menu options to your My Account > Subscription > Cancel. But these options are not available in the menu structure of Worthpoint's website! In short, they've made it impossible to end the Free Trial or ever cancel your recurring subscription payments. LOTS OF OTHERS RAISE THE SAME POINT HERE on Trustpilot!

Fortunately, I subscribed using PayPal, so a quick telephone call to PayPal's customer services got my subscription cancelled and any attempt to claim further payments are blocked. This is why I always use PayPal wherever possible.

Worthpoint may be of use to you, just be aware that there are issues and pitfalls. Also, Worthpoint needs to make it possible to CANCEL a Trial or Subscription else risk getting themselves a bad reputation.

UPDATE

I'll give Worthpoint their due. Their customer services got back to me without delay and have officially ended my subscription. That's good.

Meanwhile, however, they've contacted Trustpilot and it appears they are trying to have my review taken down. That should tell you a lot about Worthpoint. They didn't respond directly to my fair, balanced and truthful report. They want my personal details. They aren't getting them. If they change their website so it's actually possible to close your account, and send a reply on here. They will have resolved the problem and I can amend my review. Otherwise, I don't take kindly to people who go behind my back. Trustpilot should tell them to answer my concerns on here.

*******

Update. Thank you for the clarification. That is very clear, and is what was needed in the first instance. Hopefully, you'll also be fixing your software so that your How to CANCEL instructions actually work. Once you've done that, I'll be happy to amend this review.

"WorthLESS than $20/mo"

I've been buying storage units for 3 decades! I've learned I've given and thrown away stuff because it looked nasty or like junk to later find out it was worth thousands. Now, unless I KNOW the value, it goes to storage until it's researched. I needed something to expedite my process. YouTubers I watchED raved about Worthpoint so I tried it. I attempted to savor my trial to value items I was stuck on. I called and left a message I didn't understand how to use the markings lookup. No response. I didn't find any videos to assist. You have to provide a description of the mark. Then search will show you an image of marks that match your description, which I thought was great. BUT, If you don't know what the marking is or how to describe it, you can't search for it. Asian marks, forget about it. The reference books are wonderful, IF THEY ARE IN YOUR PERSONAL LIBRARY (IMO).
I attempted to cancel before my trial was over because it was frustrating to search prices for items Google images could not find if I didn't know what the item was. IF the item IS in worthpoint google image would take me to it. Google image did most of the work. The few times that it did give me something useful it either showed me it last sold for several years ago for $X which ended up not really being useful, did that mean it was obsolete, rare, keywords were wrong, Or ebay is the wrong market? Or it showed me my items weren't selling for much. Worthpoint ate up A LOT OF MY TIME. The features, as-is, aren't worth the money unless you are an affiliate, IMHO. The 7 item value search trial was confusing because I wanted to the higher priced search version which includes maker mark searches. I was afraid to use my trial searches on the "wrong" keywords, so I don't think I used the 7, so I paid for 3-4 mos. I wish I had just sent an email to cancel during the trial, when I couldn't get the cancel button to work.

"Not Worth It (No pun intended)"

I subscribed to Worthpoint not only to research background on various items but also to fine-tune price points. For 20 bucks a month, you don't get the price of the item. You have to move to the sales platform on which something is listed and hope you can find the item. I subscribed in order to date/price search various pieces belonging to my mother as part of settling her estate with the goal of likely selling some of them.

I tried to cancel my subscription, which I signed up for via the mobile app on my phone. When I attempted to do this, it came up with the message that I had to log in using the same device in order to cancel. I WAS ON THE SAME DEVICE. As mentioned, I'm still in the midst of settling my mother's estate and don't have time for such nonsense. Today, I see a Paypal charge having gone through today 11/29/2022. Recalling that I have to use the same device as the one used to sign up in the first place, I purposely logged on using my laptop, a completely new device. Guess what? I was able to cancel the subscription that was renewed today. Yay, I paid for another month and won't be going anywhere near Worthpoint. The few items I searched were difficult to find and, once located, usually showed them listed on eBay. So, I simply started doing research on eBay with a lot more success and it's FREE. Very disappointing.

This company is a scam. The app doesn't do anything and don't sign up and pay for subscription that they will charge every month 25.43. I canceled subscription 15 min after buying and they wouldn't refund the money.

Definitely don’t waste your money on this site, paid £25 per month and you can find more up to date info through Google.
Terrible customer service and they blame everything on the Apple app.
AVOID and save your money,

"Being charged for free trial"

I signed up for the free trial, of 7 days or 7 look ups. I looked up 1 item and cancelled my trial the following day. They started trying to charge me the full month that day. I have emailed multiple times with not 1 response. Daily they try to charge me.

"Stay away from this company"

This company states they have a free trial, when in fact you have to pay for that free trial.
Then they continue to charge you cc every month unless you formerly cancel via email.
When I canceled after the supposed free trial, they sent me an email stating I didn’t have an acct.
With that email confirmation from them, I thought the acct was closed and moved on.
It wasn’t until I was on my Amex acct that I noticed they have been charging my acct for months!!
This is a bait and switch company that scams people. Shame on them!!
Their service was not at all helpful.
Find another company, not this one!

"Scam"

Great, I'm screwed, I joined also to see the value of a piece of musical memorabilia I had and that's how they draw you in. Maybe they have a team of artists that create drawings to draw you in, I haven't found mind except for their website. Can you imagine what a money maker that would be? Wish I'd have thought of it and I'd recruit great artists to sell stuff at great prices. Good for you Worthpoint! I'm out. If you want to see what your items are worth, go to PBS Antique Road Show, they're honest!
