Poor Work and Customer Service- DON’T HIRE THEM

TLDR- Unprofessional moving company that packed haphazardly and poorly and delivered a couch with no cushion.

I had a recent long distance move done by Safeway. Listen to the negative reviews placed here on google. There are plenty of additional complaints on Yelp and Better Business Bureau and many people on Reddit stating how poorly this company does service. I highly doubt many of the positive reviews placed here are from real customers. You can tell by how short and sweet the reviews are. When you need volume you don't spend time with details. I wish I had done better research before doing business with them. My advice- scour reddit on r/moving and it will give you a good idea who you should be picking for your next move.

First and foremost, Safeway is a broker. Never pick brokers. They aren’t the actual moving company. They pretty much bid out the work to someone local. The people that came to pack my stuff were initially surprised that nothing was packed when I had explicitly stated and paid for a full pack and move service. Much of the packing was not organized well and was just dumped into boxes before placing tape on them. They also provide no update after picking your stuff up. Only some vague language that its on the way. I recommend placing some Airtag trackers in your stuff to get a general idea as to where it is. I am glad I was atleast able to get my stuff within the 21 day window as there are horror stories of people out there that took more than a month.

Worst part about my move was that the Safeway essentially lost a piece of my cushion of my expensive couch. Upon delivery, the driver essentially stated that the cushion was missing and must have gotten lost in transit. Safeway basically washes their hands off the problem pointing to the insurance clause that states that they only cover 60 cents/lb and that is tied to the weight of the cushion. They are like…”yeah we will try to find it for you…it might show up in 6 months. Good luck!”. This is not the level of service I expected. For the record, I have moved 5 times and have NEVER had a such a large mistake happen. I know what good service looks like and this isn’t it! The carefree attitude of this company should make you stay far away from them. They essentially dont care about your stuff once they have your initial deposit and have packed your stuff. They know you are in their hands.

Veteran owned….what a joke! You guys should be ashamed of the quality of work and customer service you are providing.

"GO TO SOME OTHER MOVING COMPANY"

GO TO SOME OTHER MOVING COMPANY. I should have listened to the negative reviews. Once they take your money, you will not get ANY INFORMATION on your shipment. This company deserves NEGATIVE stars. I do not understand how they can have this rating. Once they got the job, no one was able to provide information about the whereabouts of my shipment. The constant response when I could get hold of someone was, I will have someone get back to you AND THAT DID NOT HAPPEN. The salesman Scott Curtis promised delivery btw 3 and 14 business days because he said this was a regular route for the company. Of course 14 business days passed and I am still waiting for the shipment and no one at Safeway can provide the whereabouts of my shipment. The lack of support and information from this company is HORRENDOUS. The government should crack down on these moving companies and hold them accountable. GO TO SOMEONE OTHER THAN SAFEWAY MOVING to have your items moved.

"Not good at all"

Not good at all. The first contact sales pitch was awesome, all down hill after that. Late for pickup, WAY Late for drop off as in weeks. Always having to call myself for updates. Stuff finally arrives and we are talking major damages. Broken monitors, printers, VERY expensive BBQ island, fire pit broken. Nice Ebikes scratched, bed dented. Promised to put furniture together and the guys said oh we don't have any tools sorry. All this great service for $7K!!!! Run from this company. I have have insurance claims initiated, not holding my breathe.

"Safeway advertises military efficiency--be afraid!"

Safeway advertises military efficiency, competent staff, clear communications, and desire to take the stress out of moving. Our experience was like joining a nightmare parody of an army. The helpful and encouraging recruiter who signed us up was replaced by authoritarian, uncommunicative, and incompetent workers. Safeway confirmed our moving date only the day before pickup. They told us to be ready at 0800, but the van arrived (without a key to its padlocked door) at 1700. We had no information for two weeks after pickup, which meant driving flat out for fours days let the van arrive on the earliest promised date (rather than on the latest). The delivery team of two was expected to unload 16,000 pounds! They worked ceaselessly from 0900 to 2300 and then hit the road for another job. We were instructed to pay by cashiers check and then told (after buying the check) that they wanted cash (absurd!) or Zelle (impossible given the sums involved). The loaders and unloaders did a good sum under impossible conditions. I am not complaining that the move cost half again as much as promised in the "binding" contract, but I am angry that the company refused to communicate accurately at any time during the process (or to respond to my letter of concern after the event).
They cannot afford to provide information because their business model rests of rapidly decisions about where to send their trucks.

"Nearly Consumer Fraud"

Make sure you have the Safeway sales person clearly spell out the details of the move and the charges before signing an agreement. Also, like other movers, they write very dense agreements to put you off from reading the fine print, but make sure you read carefully! Wasn't until I read the Bill of Lading contract that I saw in very tiny print that the "First Date Available for Delivery", which the customer sets, is only the date that starts the clock on the 30 BUSINESS days Safeway has to deliver your goods. First Date Available is not the first date Safeway might deliver. In fact, on 2 phone calls they said they expected to deliver in a 2 week window starting on First Date Available, but that's NOT TRUE! In fact, they delivered on the 28th business day to me, which was almost 2 months after the First Dave Available and I had to pay extra furniture rental charges for a month because they didn't deliver soon enough. They're also very hazy about how much extra room you have under the cubic feet maximum you pay for vs. what you had planned to ship. I actually could have moved several more boxes if I had known. Make sure you buy more insurance than the minimum. The sales guy advised me to not buy more but that's wrong. Always assume in a move of furniture some of it will be damaged. The minimum insurance coverage is $ or $2 per pound of furniture damaged so it gets you very little. Buy more coverage! Finally, the thing that pisses me off the most is they have a huge information advantage over you because we only employ movers a few times during our lifetime. Instead of taking advantage of our lack of knowledge and trying to rush us to sign a contract, they should be walking through all the key details to make sure we understand the pros and cons and not withholding information.
