After 106 days I have not received my deposit refund. Lots of excuses and terrible phone attitude now that I’ve cancelled my order.

"Lies and no communication"

The original guy I talked to on the phone lied about multiple things. He said this was his personal number I could call any time of day and night if I had any questions. It was just the number to the office and I never heard from this man again. He said the quote he gave me would not change under any circumstances, which it did it increased by $800. If he would have just been honest in the beginning about this stuff it would have been no problem, why all the lies? We had only hours notice for both pickup and drop off despite multiple calls to the company to ask for a time frame. They were also deceiving on the phone about the insurance policy, it is only $0.60 per pound. They lost our vacuum cleaner, the shelves for one of our bookshelves, and a laundry hamper. Because these do not weigh very much we will get pennies for them despite the total value being a couple hundred bucks to replace.

"Can’t go lower than a 1 star here and…"

Can’t go lower than a 1 star here and they do NOT deserve even that. I would NOT recommended these people to anyone ever. From day one it was lie after lie after lie. Ripped me off for over $3000! Lied to me and doubled the original quote price! The mover did nothig but continually rub his crotch and talk to me like I was stupid!

"Misled, Lied to and taken advantage of"

After many thorough conversations with UNITED PRO VAN LINES regarding our items to be moved we were quoted 407 cf with an estimated total moving cost of $2000. United Pro Van Lines set up our move with HANDLE WITH CARE MOVING AND TRANSPORTATION. When they arrived at our home in Indiana the mover asked me to sign the Interstate Bill of Lading Contract. The only numbers on the contract when I signed it was the Cubic Feet Charges of 407 @ 4.00 per cu ft. total $1028. I then signed the contract.

The movers had our allotted space in the truck roped off and showed us multiple times that we had plenty of space. He had a rope hanging in the truck that we could not go past or we would be over the 407cf. Once all our items were loaded and we were once again told we had plenty of room left we opted to add a few additional items, such as bulk Costco toilet paper and bulk Costco paper towels. The mover then shut the truck. He then informed us that we went over the number of items quoted and it would be an additional $422. Now totalling $2422. We were shocked because no one had ever mentioned “number of items” we were only told we had 407cf in our quoted move. We were told before he shut the truck that we were still behind the rope and under our quoted 407cf. We then demanded that he open the truck so that we could take the additional items off. We were not going to pay $422 more to send items such as toilet paper. He then added the additional numbers to the contract I had previously signed. I did not sign anything after he added the new updated total. He told us that he was not allowed to open the truck door once it was closed. We told the driver we needed to call the moving company and we immediately called Judith with United Van Lines and while we were on the phone with her the driver drove away with our valuables! This was the beginning of our nightmare move.

Judith with United Pro Van Lines told us multiple times she would review the Interstate Bill of Lading Contract and get back with us. Of course we never heard anything. Our hands were tied. The moving company, HANDLE WITH CARE MOVING AND TRANSPORTATION had our valuables and we just wanted them delivered safely.

Our valuables left our home in Indiana on 6/21/2023 and did not arrive at our Florida home until 7/14/2023 at 8pm (our first date listed for delivery was 6/26/23 so this was 19 days later) I was told on average it would take about 4 days. I was never informed that it was a shared move and could take this long.
On two different occasions we flew to Florida awaiting our items which never showed. There were lots of expenses in flights, hotels and rental cars.
When our long awaited valuables finally showed up in Florida, the first thing I noticed when the movers opened the truck were our couch cushions unwrapped and laying on the floor of the dirty truck! We had just purchased a brand new Pottery Barn sectional, dining table, console table and bench. They were in perfect condition when they left our home in Indiana. All items were delivered damaged and beyond repair. To replace the couch alone would be over $6000 and we will be lucky to get $200 back from the insurance.

I realize now we should have purchased additional insurance. I was only told multiple times by United Pro Van Lines that we were completely protected with up to $10,000 in insurance that was included in our move. I was never informed that I would only actually get .60 per pound. The movers on the drop off told us that all of our furniture should have been wrapped in blankets. None of our furniture was wrapped or protected. It looked like someone just threw it in the truck.. The couch has multiple tears, grease, and dirt stains. The tables are chipped and dented.

We are heartbroken over this move. We spent years saving for our retirement home and picked out the perfect furniture and it was not handled with care. Ironically, the toilet paper and paper towels we tried to remove from the truck never showed up. We also had a brand new twin mattress and garage shelves that did not show up either.

We feel like we were misled, lied too and taken advantage of.

"Horrible Experience"

My mother passed away in May of this year and I needed to move some things from her house in Michigan to my home in Oregon. I had a detailed list of the items with measurements that I needed moved which was approximately one room full of things. The largest thing I had was a 5.5-foot love seat and they had a detailed list of everything I had to move. I called United Pro Van Lines and they said this would be perfect because they had a moving truck going to Oregon and it had some room left for my things. I sent them my list of items and did not add more things than what I talked to them about. The first man that I talked with said that I could add 35 more boxes and pay the price we agreed on. I was encouraged to bring more but I didn’t have anything more. I told him how I was packaging things and he said it was fine. I thought this sounded great because I didn’t have any more items so I signed the contract. I received a call a few days ahead of the move and I told them my list was the same except that I might add a small bench. He said that unless I surprise them with a grand piano, the price would not change. They sent a Ryder truck to pick up my things a couple days late and when he walked into the house, he immediately said, “No way, they misquoted you” I was called in Oregon and he kept telling me that he understood that I signed a contract but I was misquoted. He said that I had bulky items and that I needed to use his boxes and crates. He demanded that I sign a new contract and pay him $3152 in cash.” I was so shocked and he was angry and rude when I told him that I did not have $3152 in cash to give him.” He told my sister that she would have to give him the cash and sign. When she said that she didn’t have cash, he became very rude, threw boxes and slammed the truck doors. The passenger in the Ryder truck told my sister that this happens all day long and that they have angry customers every day. I did tell him to leave because this felt so wrong and went against everything they had previously told me. After he left, I called customer service and was so upset and asked if this is right and she said no that this isn’t right. She tried to call the dispatchers and said they didn’t answer and so she would send the recorded call to the people above her. She told me to send them an email with the details. So, I did that and waited for them to get back to me. I was sent an email and was told that I signed a contract saying that I would not get a refund if I refused service and that I had bulky items. When I asked if she read my email, it was obvious that it didn’t matter. She said that it was all hearsay and that I should have called customer service while the driver was there but I was in Oregon and couldn’t leave a rude, angry man alone with my sister so I waited until he left. My mom’s things are still in Michigan in my sister’s basement. This happened at a time when I was grieving my mom’s death and feeling so anxious. I hope that I can help others so they will not get into this awful situation.

"They're a broker and have no control with the actual moving company.."

I contacted with them for a move from ATL to Louisville, KY. Got a quote. Did not know that they were a broker.
They stay on the phone and push you to give them the credit card down payment.

The movers showed up on the correct date, now 6 days later we can't get it delivered. United Pro Vanlines took $1500 downpayment. Then the mover came and of course the price went way up from the quote. They took another $2000, plus the movers extorted a huge tip from me.

After 11 days 1/2 the shipment showed up. The movers demanded complete payment or they wouldn't unload the truck, after driving the 7 hours.
Now, I'm out $4600+ and still not done with the saga.

We're at day 20 and have NO idea when the rest will arrive.
Their contract says they have up to 21 business days to deliver our stuff.

In fairness to United Pro Van Lines, Judith and Justin have tried very hard to get information from the moving company and keep me updated. Which is appreciated.

This has been a terrible, expensive mistake.
