"Athens + Skopelos"

My partner and I spent 10 days in Athens followed by 10 days on Skopelos island.
The first half of the holiday was excellent, we were greeted at the airport by our Olympic rep and taxi driver with a sign with my name on, they gave us lots of tips about Athens, leaflets for booking excursions etc. we were escorted to the taxi which was a lovely private transfer (as booked). Athens was fantastic but only because I had planned everything myself prior, the rep did not contact us once whilst we were there - a courtesy message would have been nice the day before we left. But I can’t complain as the trip ran smoothly.
The second half, however, was pretty shocking. We were picked up from our Athens hotel at 6:30 and taken to the airport, our flight to Skiathos was at 9:40 and there were no delays. When we arrived at Skiathos, we got out luggage quick and got out of the airport and looked for someone holding a sign with my name - we eventually found a lady with a generic Olympic holidays sign (would have been helpful to know she was there for us and not someone else!). She escorted us to the taxi and was friendly. She told us she would follow the taxi and meet us at the port. We then drove for 5 minutes to the port and dropped off at a cafe. When the rep met us she told us our ferry was at 13:10 (it was now 11:15), she also gave us out tickets and other holiday information. She told us we could wait in the cafe or leave our luggage and go for a walk until the ferry arrived, not exactly what we wanted after 10 days in Athens and an early morning. Then she left and told us to get in touch if we needed anything. We waited around until 1pm and made our way ti the port with our luggage, the rep then messaged on WhatsApp and told me the ferry was 13:40 not 13:10, and that it wasn’t a ferry but a Catamaran and they are prone to being cancelled if it’s too windy, she said to ask the man in the cafe for help if needed!! So we waited some more. A huge ferry eventually turned up which turned out to be ours - not a tiny catamaran!! We had to wait 20 minutes for all of the cars and people to get off the ferry before we could even board, so it didn’t actually leave until gone 2pm. The island of Skopelos has multiple ports so I messaged our rep to check which one we should be getting off at and I got an out of office reply! (She eventually replied hours later!) When we got to Skopelos, the ferry docked at a port which was different to the planned route and not a port at a major town on the island, a lot of tourists were stranded with poor phone signal. I walked for a while to get phone signal and then phoned dolphins (who were the transfer people) and explained we had arrived on the island but nobody was here to pick us up, so they sent a private car to come and get us.
When we got the hotel it seemed nice and we were happy to just be at the hotel after a long day. After a few days we realised that the hotel was definitely not up to scratch. The shower had no shower head holder and was tiny so washing my hair was almost impossible and it was so small I could barely move. The toilet also didn’t flush properly. The maids did not change our sheets the whole 10 days we were there and they only mopped the bathroom floor on the first day. I had ti ask reception for more toilet paper as the maids also never replenished that. The glasses we had in the room were also never swapped or cleaned. The staff at the hotel were strange, it could have been an issue with the language, but they just never seemed like they could be bothered to help and barely engaged in conversation. The hotel was supposed to serve snack food by the pool 12-5:30 but sometimes wouldn’t start doing food until 1:30/2 as the cook wasn’t there time.
When it was time to leave, I had to phone dolphins to see what time out pickup was - which is something I would expect a rep to do for us! But our rep wasn’t even on our island so we hadn’t seen or heard from her in 10 days.
We walked to the port for 6am and the hotel brought our bags down to us. A man then came over and said the sea was too rough and our ferry was going to be at another port so we had to get on a bus to the other side of the island. We got on the ferry and made our way back to Skiathos. When we got to Skiathos, we were met by the same rep with another generic Olympic holidays sign and she walked us to the same cafe we were dumped at when we first got to the island. She told us that we would be picked up for the airport at 9:45 - so we had another 2 hours of waiting around.
I wouldn’t say our experience was bad, I just expected better. I understand that the poor ferry service on the Greek islands isn’t Olympic holidays fault, but there is more they can do to make it easier and more enjoyable. Being dumped in a cafe and left to wait for hours isn’t fun, and the fact that the reps make no effort to contact you throughout your stay and aren’t visible at all really isn’t good.

We had a wonderful stay at the Filokalia Apartments in Skiathos. Everyone we spoke to have been coming back year after year. The staff were wonderful and a special thank you to Yara. She couldn’t do enough for us. Thank you Yara. You were ace!

Amazing holiday, Joe was great and lovely to talk to and meet him. We weren’t sure what to expect but it was much better than we expected. Accommodation and trip was great.

My experience using Olympic holidays was absolutely fantastic. I spoke to and emailed Helen Lord who went above and beyond to make my holiday possible and to help with my dinosaur checking in/ boarding pass skills, a delight and so helpful.
I could go on and on about this great service but will let you see for yourself 👏👏👏👏

"Good holiday but let down by hotel niggles."

TLDR: Great staff and service on the ground but niggles with the hotels and all stoped it being a great holiday.

We were in two hotels, one in Athens and a second in Zante. Both the reps we dealt with were great. Olivia was helpful in Athens and in Zakynthos Amanda was absolutely amazing. Both with some technical support with the Olympic app, booking trips and when we had a wildfire near the hotel.
The transfers we pre-booked were all on time to get is where we needed to be with some nice vehicles and nice drivers so everything went pretty smoothly. Coaches for trips were at the hotel at arranged times with no delays and were very efficient.

The hotels were both pretty good and acceptable for what we paid. Clean, simple with some lovely staff.

So what let it down? Just niggles really. The Olympic app is not as user friendly as it could be. This made booking trips more of a faff than it should be. The first hotel in Athens was located on the edge of a particularly rough area (backed up by online reviews of it I should have checked before we booked) and we had to take a slightly circuitous route to get to the city centre. Not somewhere we wanted to be with young kids. The second hotel in Zakynthos’ food was ok, but we were quite happy to eat out every night despite being all inclusive. Plus the WiFi didn’t work in the rooms (which was a bit of a pain with younger kids). Nothing that was the end of the world. Just stoped it being a five star holiday.

"Fantastic time island hopping - 4 islands in 2 weeks"

Absolutely seamless and well organised island hoping holiday around the Cyclades. Flew into Santorini, then visited Naxos, Paros and Mykonos. Beautiful islands and some fabulous well chosen hotels. All ferries arranged and transfers between airports, hotels and ports were superbly organised and on time. When we had a small issue in one hotel, Joe the rep for the Cyclades was amazing in sorting it out. The communication from Olympic via Joe on WhatsApp was appreciated and valued. Looking forward to our next trip!

Our booking was messed up from the start so we had to arrange our food with the hotel but I will say our hotel is fantastic we go there every year but not happy with hays travel agents at moment they need to make sure what you require when you book your holiday or your be paying more money on your holiday
