"Why is this company allowed to do business?"

This company is allowed to function although is scamming daily people.
You are being forced to pay premium on any item and some are hazardous electrical devices or items used until they don't work anymore.
John Pye will sell these items covered by fake original boxes (for example used Braun toothbrush in a Philips Sonicare box).
This company is a scam and it will scam you at some point.
Avoid the Marchington auctions, I belive these people look for items in the bins then put them for auction with 25% premium.
Stay safe people and go buy new, don't waste time, money and mental health on these auctions.
PS: 1.There is no legislation for SOLD AS SEEN in the UK.
2. Your "SOLD AS SEEN LOTS" should not have an online auction, if the company is honest, this should be only "in person" auction...but you know nobody will buy them and you will need to recycle all that garbage you advertised.

"gave 1 star as couldn't give no stars."

gave 1 star as couldn't give no stars.
after seeing a featured item (sigma lens )l bid and won the item and on arrival the lens was broken and did not work, when l phoned customer service they told me l should've gone on a 200mile trip to check the item before bidding, after seeing it was a featured item it never occurred to me that it would be a broken item. NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM John Pye Auction unless you go and view because they have no intentions of refunding you if broken...
SCAM ALERT... junk items sold as good

"If something seems too good to be true…"

If something seems too good to be true it usually is. That's definitely the case with John Pye.

I've had a couple of decent purchases where the items arrived as expected, but the vast majority of items are broken, defective, missing key parts, soiled and so on. They don't explain in the listings or show the issues in the photos, so unless you can visit in person to check the lots do not buy from them - it's a complete lottery. Most stuff is not fit for sale but they hide behind the T&C's so your stuck with rubbish that should have been sent to the tip instead of put up for sale.

I just won five lots, each containing 3 or so items. Every single item has a major problem.

A grill/griddle has a hole in the case.
Three uplighters don't work.
A Micro Scooter is missing a clip that keeps the handle in place.
An air fryer is used and incredibly dirty.
Three pans are worn and scratched.
A glass bird feeder stand is missing the glass part - it's just pole. I can get replacement glass, but it costs £50.
Two clocks don't work - one even had a John Pye sticker on the box that says 'dirty inside, doesn't work at all' - this wasn't visible in the online photos or detailed in the listing.
I'm done with John Pye. Never buying anything from them again.

"Don’t ever buy anything from this…"

Don’t ever buy anything from this company unless you go in person and inspect it throughly. I bought a condenser dryer on the online auction. It is scrap, on inspection by an engineer. It has been twisted and is completely useless. The hammer price was £175. I bid on an oven , the door will not open. I bid on a mirror which was completely smashed. The people selling know these items are not fit for sale but once you have bid you are not able to get out of the sale. It should be against the law to sell these products but because it’s done under the guise of an auction they are getting away with selling unworthy products. I will be trying to report this company to the ombudsman.

"scammers, low standard company, selling items from skip"

scammers, selling damaged items and when you ask them refund they put terms in your face, zero trust and confidence to John Pye auctions, products do not meet advertising requirements/standarts,quality control is on lowest level(only for money grabbing)items with defects are sold as new which rising serious doubts about companies ability and commitment to quality assurance(basically selling items from skip,as you can see same pictures multiple times) and refund policy is to serve only one party and it’s not customers

"just be careful when purchasing…"

just be careful when purchasing electrical items off this auction site.
I bought LG fridge freezer with dents on the side. I expected that's why it was on there as a returned item.
But when I received 2 weeks later.
model number, serial number. taken parts out.
I have been on phone with LG, but they can't help without a model number or serial number.
I hope John Pye show some compassion, as this fridge freezer is worthless. and I now have to pay to skip it.
the company that's sold through this site knew it was not working.
Don't get stung like I did. hundreds out off pocket.

"Need to do better "

Bought a few Items earlier this year from Chesterfield and all was good. However recently bought some coffee machines and Kettles from Nottingham. All the coffee machines were damaged in some way another and not shown very clearly on the pictures. Check the pictures in great detail. The Kettles looked ok but went to click the lid and the whole handle came off. Bought some boots too as well as shoes from another auction (same site) box arrived and was saturated with water - I didn't need to open it as it disintegrated in my hand. I don't understand why they do not put if items are damaged and tbf any major online auction site would not get away with it.
