"Great experience, flexible insurance deal"
We rented a Dacia Duster for our 2 week stay. Picked up at the airport right away when landed a bit after midnight. The tennant was ready with a sign.
The car was in good condition and we checked the car upon pickup, but had to use a flashlight to see the car properly. Small scratches were noted in the report without any hassle, even the small ones the tennant told would not matter.
Pickup was fast and clean without problems.
Returning the car was also of no problem, we arrived at around 22 and was ready to go to the airport. The car was VERY dirty on return, but the return was still fast and efficient, no hidden costs or hassles of any kind.
The car itself was in good condition and got us through the trip, including a LOT of f roads and river crossings. LOVED our precious Duster!
Only problem we encountered was that the car had a puncture when we picked it up. We could fill air in, but after half a day the TPW alarm would go off again. I contacted goiceland the evening two days after we picked up the car. The guy on the phone didn't sound too entusiastic, but listened to my problem and found a solution for us. I was told to just have it fixed at a tire shop and bring the receipt on return. Quick stop (15 minutes) at the tire shop and we were going again without any other problems what so ever. The money was refunded on return, no questions asked.
Before our trip I talked to goiceland via mail to inquire about additional insurance coverage as my travel insurance covers self risk on damages and some damage types are not included in icelanding rental car companies insurance (this is the case for all companies!). They agreed to add coverage for water damage and chassis damage as well as theft protection with no additional charge for me. This was at some quite hefty self risks however (750000 ISK), but this would be covered by my travel insurance, so no problem for me.
All in all a VERY pleasant rental experience, perhaps the best I have tried yet. Very efficient, flexible and communication was good.

"THIS PLACE IS A SCAM! Had to pay $15,000!"
THIS PLACE IS A SCAM! We had to pay them $15,000 for a new paint job to cover pinpoint sized "scratches"
My husband and I rented a VW van from the Go Iceland Car Rental Company. We rented the van for 5 days. When we returned the van, the company said that they would need to replace all three windows on the driver side of the van and repaint that side of the van due to damage from a sand storm. They showed us teeny tiny dots, smaller than a pencil tip, and said that was caused by sand and they needed to repair that damage. They said that we owed them $15,000. As a special education teacher who makes $50,000 per year and still has student loan debt this price tag immediately made me cry.
There are multiple issues that I have with their claim.
1. The “damage” was small and these tiny dots are barely noticeable when someone points to them and they are impossible to see if no one points them out. These tiny dots do not affect the functioning of the van and, the aggressive weather in Iceland makes the tiny dots seem like normal wear and tear and should NOT be the responsibility of the customer but the rental car company.
2. There is no way to really know if the damage during the time we had the car. We filled out the damage card at the start of the trip and walked around the car to assess the current damages but if there were tiny dots on the paint and the windows we would not have been able to see them.
3. $15,000 seems like way much money to repaint half the car and replace three windows.
4. There was another couple that was charged with the same damage when we were trying to get out of these charges. When we googled this company there were many negative reviews about this same charge. It seems like a scam!
5. They tried to make us sign a paper that said we take responsibility for the damage and when we refused to sign the document they said that they would not give us the document that says we returned the car. They coerced into signing a document we did not agree with by threatening to say that we did not return the car, therefore; charging us for the cost do the entire car. This part was what made us feel like it was a scam and that they we were completely taken advantage of us. We were afraid that if we didn’t comply we would not be able to leave the country or need to pay for the cost of the entire van.
This place is a total scam! We are still paying off the $15,000 debt that this placed charged us for nothing! I am sure that they didn't even repaint the car, they just pocketed our money.

"Top service!"
We had great experience with this company. We had to adjust our booking and it was done very fast and the service was super friendly. We rented a camper van and it was really good and had everything in it. Didn't have any issues with the car during our trip. At the drop-off my husband forgot the camera under the pillow and we thought we gonna say good buy to it as we've already passed security gates. But the staff saved us and delivered the camera right to the airport within like 20 minutes. They are great and we are really grateful for such attitude! Totally recommend!

The staff were reasonable, and great to work with. The car ran like a charm. The price was right. They greeted me right off of the plane, and drove me to the rental shop where I quickly got my car and was headed on my way to adventure the land of Iceland.

!!!Highly recommend!!! Had a great experience with this Go Iceland rent-car, they were on time at the airport, the prices were very fair and the vehicles are super new, rented a small kia Manual with AC, drove around for couple days getting safely to my destination, unfortunately had a small little chip on the windshield caused by a large truck’s wake coming on the opposite direction and the manager of the company was super fair in understanding of the road and the weather conditions of Iceland and didn’t charge me for either the replacement or the deductible on which would’ve cost a lot. I definitely enjoyed my time in Iceland and this company, I’d rent from them again in the future. Keep up the good work.

Sämsta biluthyrningsfirma jag någonsin haft att göra med. Och jag har hyrt bilar i MÅNGA länder. Vi fick ingen förklaring om vart vi skulle hämta våran bil. Vi sprang runt länge och väl på flygplatsen och letade innan vi frågade någon på ett annat uthyrningsbolag (där enligt google: Go Iceland car rental, skulle finnas). Det skulle tydligen komma någon att hämta oss för att skjutsa oss till uthyrningsstället. Det var strike 1. Vi kom fram till stället, vi hade bokat våran bil från kl 1200. Vi var där kl 1130. Vi frågade då om vi kunde få våran bil lite tidigare om det var möjligt. Nej sa dom, vi hade minsann hyrt från kl 1200 och tidigare kunde vi absolut inte få då vi inte betalt för det. Det var såklart fine. Men vi fick tillslut bilen 1245. Så det var inte lika viktigt med tider från deras håll... Strike 2. Vi upptäckte ganska snabbt att bilen hade problem med laddningen. Den var svårstartad och stängde man av den mer än ett par timmar så gick den knappt igång. Eftersom vi fortfarande var i Reykjavik så ringde vi och bad om en annan bil eftersom den vi fått inte var pålitlig nog för att påbörja våran stora bilresa med. Dom försäkrade oss om att om vi verkligen skulle bli stående (vilket dom absolut inte trodde) så skulle dom komma ut och hjälpa oss då det hände. Vi fortsatte då med en klump i magen. Dag 3 fick vi inte längre igång bilen. Vi ringde då bolaget som sa att det skulle bli mycket dyrt för oss att skicka ut en mekaniker, det var bättre om vi kunde kabla igång den med hjälp av annan bil. Vi förklarade då att vi blivit lovade hjälp om den skulle börja bråka på riktigt, men dom sa bara "Ja, men inte gratis." Strike 3! Så vi kablade igång bilen, efter många om och men (detta tog flera timmar denna dag). Vi blev tvingade köra till en stad långt borta för att komma till en mekaniker, där dom bytte ut batteriet. Detta tog då resten av denna dag, plus en hel massa extra mil vi själva fick stå för. Vi fortsatte köra på våran roadtrip. 2 dagar senare stod vi där igen. Strike 4. Bilen ville inte starta. Vi ringde igen men ingen kunde hjälpa oss förrän vi kom till en stor stad. Vi hade då flera dagar kvar innan vi planerat skulle komma till denna stad. Så vi fick ställa oss i nedförsbackar varje gång vi stannade bilen för att kunna rulla igång bilen. Vi fick mycket hjälp av andra resenärer att putta igång bilen, utan dom hade det inte gått alla gånger. Så höll på vi i kanske 5-6 dagar. En enorm stress som tog hårt på en under resans gång. Till slut kom vi till den där staden där uthyrningsbolaget gett oss en adress och en tid till en mekaniker. Vi kom fram till vad som visade sig vara en stängd verkstad... Strike 5. Vi fick ringa uthyraren igen (vilket var totalt omöjligt då samtalen bara bröts och vi fick vänta i en evighet på att komma fram osv). Vi förklarade att det var stängd på verkstaden. Dom skulle då ringa runt och kolla vad som blivit fel. Efter cirka 2h ringde dom upp oss och sa att mekanikern hade lämnat en annan bil åt oss med nycklarna i utanför för oss att byta till. Vi fick inte veta vart så det tog ett tag att hitta den. Äntligen gjorde dom något rätt tänkte vi! Vi fick en ny bil som skulle fungera klockrent! Bilen var full av skräp. Strike 6. Bilen hade ej fungerande baklucka. Strike 7. Bilen hade en massa larm om fel. Strike 8. Bilens centrallås fungerade ej. Strike 9. Bilen gick mycket dåligt. Strike 10. Ja det var så mycket att klaga på.... men jag orkade verkligen inte ta detta med dom inkompetenta uthyrarna något mer. Vi stod ut resten av resan, bilen höll väl ihop men knappt....
Ingen hjälp. Undermåliga bilar. Kostsamt om det händer något. Ingen ursäkt. Ingen rabatt. Ingenting. Rekommenderar verkligen ingen detta lurendrejeriföretag! Jag förstår inte att dom kan fortsätta med ett sånt pinsamt dåligt företag helt utan moral.

"Great help in a crisis"
We rented a camper van to drive around the ring road. My son ended up having emergency surgery in the hospital in Akureyri, and then we had to fly directly from Akureyri back to the US for continued treatment. The nurses in the hospital called Go Iceland, and they arranged for us to leave the van at a car service company in Akureyri, and they found someone to drive it back to Reykjavik. This was such a huge relief, as I had no idea how I could get the van the 5 hours back to Reykjavik. Great customer service.

If the option allows, this car renting company does not even worth voting for half of a star. Should be given zero star!!!
We arrived at the iceland airport, they car was not ready at the airport and we waited for a person who carried a card board with go iceland name on it. The person told us to wait at the designated spot saying would send us to the office after he received other customers together. In the end he just left with another group of people and we had to wait for the next pick up.
At the office, the waiting time was longer than 30 mins when there are not many groups ahead of us. This was not all, we were told to place ISK13k deposit if chose not to purchase basic and addition insurance. It was indicated on the website upon ordering the car that the rental price included the basic insurance. We had no better options to change as there were no other companies available that we could turn to like in the airport.
After we pick up the car, no one came to inspect the car with us and the instruction of the venue for car return was really vague and unhelpful. Just return it there ... the container office... we left because we made appoint at blue lagoon.
On the invoice, the agreement and verbally also didnt highlight to fill the petrol tank in full. Plus the fact that we travelled from the city to the site already about 30km. Of course some petrol would have been consumed. We caught by surprise that we were demanded to pay the handling and penalty fees of ISK5K ++ . We had no choice as we took a while to find the site to return the car since the instruction was not clear. This was not all, the guy at the office treated us very rudely when we clarified that the full tank requirement was not clearly pointed to us upon collection. Again we had no choice as we had a really early flight to catch at 4.30am in the morning and also had to rely on their transport to send us to the airport. We were in the middle of nowhere!!!
In conclusion, never ever rent from this company as they are really unprofessional and rude. We ended up had to pay more. Suggest to get Hetz and other reputable car rental company who have a counters at the airport for easy pick up and return.
