"Far Exceeded My Expectations"
My parents, who had been professional photographers for over 50 years, recently passed. I am not exaggerating when I say I inherited hundreds, if not thousands, of photographs, negatives, 8 mm reels, etc. I had researched ScanCafe for a few months prior to using them. One day on a whim I called the 800 number and the lady on the other end was SO nice, patient, and professional that I decided to bite the bullet and give them a try. My biggest hesitation was sending my originals overseas - once she explained that it's all done now out of Indiana, I relaxed a little. I gathered a variety of media (images, negatives, and reel film), took a deep breath, and shipped them off expecting to hear back around the holidays. To my shock, I heard back from them within 3 weeks. During the review phase, I used the Chat feature on two different occasions for follow-up questions. Yet again, I was met with super helpful and courteous staff members. This was such an amazing experience that I'm already deciding what to ship off next. Keep up the TERRIFIC work!

"Mostly good, but some issues"
ScanCafe did a generally good job on the 400+ old family photos that they scanned for us. However, their standard "enhancement" process in some cases cropped not just the white border of the original, but also part of the picture itself. Also, in some cases the enhancement process appeared to turn up the contrast too much, and lost the fine detail of some precious photos from 5 generations back in our family.
Fortunately, after some discussion with their customer support team, ScanCafe was willing to also provide the "un-enhanced" versions of the photos so I could choose to use whichever version was best. They do not normally provide the un-enhanced versions, but they did this for me because it was their fault that some of the photos were poorly done.
