"I recommend this agency"
Throughout the whole application process Camp America had great communication. The application and overall profile portal is very straightforward and well laid out.
I’ve loved my first summer at camp and already plan on returning next year

The company was so helpful with any questions I had and were always only a phone call away. Definitely will be back next year.

"The best summer! Memories for a lifetime."
I felt I needed to write this review as my experience of Camp America last year was positive. If you haven't worked part-time before or are used to being looked after at home by parents/family, I wouldn't recommend it. You work extremely hard, but as long as the Team are working together, it is an incredible experience. I was going into my third year at University and had lived away from family for 2 years. It's far from slave labour, though if you are a bit of a prince/princess, this is not for you.
I went through Camp America to work at a summer camp. I was able to research some of the camps before attending an open day in Edinburgh, where i was hired on the spot. Super easy and really exciting, especially speaking to someone who directly worked at the Camp.
The camp I chose was a smaller, girl scout camp with c. 75 -100 girls at a time. We slept on platform tents (which at first was tough), though rotated through different sites within the camp and met different members of the team. Some areas of the camp were better than others. The hours were 7am - 8/9pm, though that would include taking the girls to the sailing area where we would "spot" or to specialist activities where other members of the team took the lead. It is not an easy job, you are on the go 6 days per week with a daily 2 hour break, and the second my head hit the pillow at 9pm each night, I was fast asleep.
We were lucky to have an amazing chef at camp - the food was well cooked, there were always healthy options and surprisingly, even though i was completely full after each meal, i lost a little weight from being so active!
We were also quite lucky as the sessions were either 6 days or 13 days, with a day between sessions, so we had full days when all councillors had the day off and we could explore the area. We took trips to the islands, biked along the cycle trail, attended college baseball games etc. I really did make some friends for life and we had an amazing time! Our camp was really diverse, from Israel to Spain, South Africa and UK, plus 50% were American.
Although you are not paid the same as the US Counsellors, you are completely hand held through the visa process, and CA organise everything for you. There is no need to worry! I chose the flex flight option so a few weeks before camp ended, we were able to plan our travels and sort return flights.
If i were to apply again, I was advised to go via the camp and just use CA for the visa process etc. I reckon i would make at least double for the same role though I completely appreciate that i would not have the ability to return, should it not have been for CA in the first place,

"Exploitative employer."
My daughter went to Camp America in Maine, she found she was working until 10pm most days from 7am. She was supposed to have one day off but this was usually spent catching up with personal admin rather than rest and enjoyment of America. When she approached the leaders with her concerns they told her she was a bad influence on morale to the other counsellors. We paid nearly £2000 including flights to get her to America, insurance, admin, their fees etc. Which she barely made to break even. NOT RECOMMENDED.

"DON'T WORK FOR THEM USE CAMP USA"
I cannot express in enough detail how they will use you an international member of staff as slave labor and the Americans will be treated the same but actually get paid more than you. It is disgusting the conditions they have you living in, the disconnected children everywhere as they are never lost. The management are egomaniacs who do not care if you live or die just work until you do making them money.

"Such an incredible company overall"
Such an incredible company overall, given me so much confidence to be able to travel and work with kids and make my friends for life. The new podcast made by Joe and Zoe has been such a great learning tool to prepare for camp but also such a fun little chat that makes you feel part of something special, Joe and Zoe make you feel like they’re your friends, very warming. From the website, to the social media, to the team, it’s amazing! Definitely recommend to anyone!

"Best company for it, amazing summers in the US"
I first went to camp near Chicago in 2018 and had an amazing summer. Unfortunately I was unable to return for a couple of years due to other commitments, but in 2021 I planned on going back but due to lockdowns couldn’t get a visa from the US embassy in London… so Camp America went to incredible efforts to send a large number of participants to Mexico City for 2 weeks so we could get our visas at the US embassy there! Couldn’t be more thankful for the effort they put into saving all our summer plans. I then returned again in 2022 and am headed back this summer. I have a great time at the day camp I work at, with unbelievably good pay (low 5 digits for each summer I’ve been a returner). Camp America do a fantastic job of guiding you through the application, placement and visa processes and are on hand to call or email for any questions. I literally cannot recommend the whole experience enough, if you can, do it!

"This company is exploitative"
This company is exploitative; particularly for UK applicants. You pay Camp America a huge sum to work long hours for them barely breaking even. This programme is perfect for young people with rich parents who can pay the fees so they feel like they're earning their own pocket money. On top of this, if you choose to work for them as a full time care worker (personal care and moving and handling included) you only get paid €100 more a month. An absolute scam. Don't waste your time with this company

"You are hand-held through the programme…"
You are hand-held through the programme from start to finish. I had the most incredible time at camp and have made friends from around the world that I still speak to every day, 10 years on. It is truly an experience that'll stay with you forever and Camp America are an all inclusive programme that are so supportive.
