In May 2019 my wife and I purchased a holiday apartment to use as a holiday let, for short period lets. We insured the property through Be Wiser. At the time, I specifically asked whether we had public liability cover in respect of our guests. I was assured that we did. I was uneasy about this after I read the policy and contacted Be Wiser telephonically to check whether we in fact had such cover. I was again assured that we did, and was advised that I would be sent an email in confirmation. No email arrived. On 27 August 2019 I emailed Be Wiser requesting written confirmation of this. I received no response. I sent another email on 18 September, and I received a telephone call in response the following day. I was advised that I did not have public liability cover for guests. I was then transferred to another section to get a quote for such cover. After giving all the relevant details to an agent, I was assured that I would receive a call back in an hour or two. Alas, I received no call. The following day, whilst I was out, a call from this agent was received by my wife, who advised that I would be back later in the day. He undertook to call back. Five days passed and I received no call. I sent a further email to Be Wiser on 24 September, and then received a call from the agent with whom I had previously dealt. Jason is his name. He then offered me public liability cover, which I accepted and said that the policy would be emailed to me by at the latest the following day. I received the email with the policy documents a week later. The letter from Be Wiser states that the insurer is Spectrum. The policy document reflects the insurer as being Abacus. And my name on the policy is erroneously reflected as Paul Scott, and not Patrick Scott. I think that this service was shocking.
