"Wealthsimple Stole my money and locked me out of my account."
APRIL 2021. I opened a wealthsimple account on their platform. I deposited $ 150 canadain dollars and another $ 100. Dollars Canadain . The next day I check my bank account and it shows wealthsimple took out another UNAUTHORIZED $ 200 dollars from my bank account . I called my bank and explained it was an UNAUTHORIZED withdrawal. The bank got my $200 back . I go back into my wealthsimple account and they have me locked out of my account. I emailed them about it and they said they locked me out because I complained to my bank about an UNAUTHORIZED withdrawal that wealthsimple took. I asked them a few times in emailing them to please call me and in one email they said they could call you but they won't. . ????? This is happening as I'm writing this review. So they lock me out of my account via phone. So they still have my $250 dollars and they won't call me. How many others have they done this to and got away with it !!!! This is still on going so I will write another review about my ongoing HORRIBLE Experience with wealthsimple. I will never invest again unless a company has a Physical office , That i can physically walked into. And they will have to have phone numbers I can call and actually talk to a real person.

"Do not file your taxes with wealthsimple"
Do not file your taxes with wealthsimple. they do not have any kind of phone support or live support. upon upgrading your account they reply after an hour and their business hours is 9-5 only. it is so frustrating just to fill 5 simple empty fields, it wasted entire day and i have left them empty because they refferred to help section of faq. which is of no help.

"WealthSimple already manage my ISA"
WealthSimple already manage my ISA and I have just transferred my SIPP to them . This took longer than I expected but it was not the fault of WealthSimple and they kept me informed throughout. I am pleased with their level of service and their charging structure. Their website is very good and easy to use. We are happy that it’s not just a computer and that there are advisers there to talk to. My only criticism is that it’s quite a “blokey” place and there doesn’t seem to be too many women working there.

"WealthSimple Needs to Take Responsibility"
I am a WealthSimple client and My wife and I have a pretty awful experience.
My wife and I transferred stocks into WealthSimple and indicated on the transfer form that they were to be transferred in in-kind (leave them as they are). They were transferred in-kind, but then without my approval WealthSimple sold the stocks and put the proceeds into their funds (which they make money on, whereas with stocks they don’t make money).
I’ve contacted WealthSimple almost a half a dozen times about this and they won’t even respond to my requests to correct the incorrect trade. In the meantime the stocks have gone up in value and the WealthSimple investments have been flat so I’ve lost out on thousands of dollars.
I used to be an IIROC advisor so I know they’re required to get approval for me for any unusual trades, and they’re required to reverse this trade and make me whole for the lost gains.
They won’t even respond to my customer service requests or emails to their compliance department.
UPDATE: they replied only after I filed a complaint with IIROC (the regulatory body) and it was basically, “Too bad so sad, you should have read the fine print.”
The fine print, and their status as a discretionary portfolio manager allows them to legally do what they did. But they also have a legal responsibility to clients to make paperwork easy to understand, and in cases of uncertainty get trades approved. When their transfer paperwork has a headline that says TRANSFER ALL ASSETS IN-KIND then in the fine print it says that they’ll sell your securities, that’s unclear what a customer is agreeing to.
Their lack of response at the outset, and their refusal to accept any responsibility for poor paperwork causes me to have the opinion that their management is not operating in the best interest of clients; very few financial institutions really are, but at least major financial institutions compliance department will side with a customer in times of doubt.
