"Avoid them, no communication at all"
Our experience with Direction Law has been incredibly frustrating due to their poor communication and difficulty in being reached. We are left in the dark with minimal updates and a complete lack of responsiveness. It is nearly impossible to get in touch with them, and when we do, the information provided is minimal and unhelpful.
We have instructed Direction Law since February and we still have not received any documents to go through from our solicitor Ann Beake or her Assistant Charlotte Simpson. Our mortgage offer Expires on 6th of September, if no one takes action soon then we will lose the property. They are not considering that we are buying during very difficult period they are making it worse for us.
The sellers Estate agent has shown a much better professionalism and interest in keeping us informed than the people I have paid do act on my behalf.

"Home ownership"
To get to buy my 1st house was a great step for me. Direction Law gave me the help I needed. They answered all my questions. It could have been more personal. The advisers has changed a few times, but forward the end I got just 1 person helping me, what was good. Very professional company. Tumbs up.

"Avoid at all costs"
I contacted this company as it transpired they had made a serious mistake with an extension of lease on my freehold property. I asked for someone to call me back and was told a solicitor would, I chased this daily for a week and emailed, no one got back to me, when I called back again and asked to speak to a manager a receptionist refused to tell me who the manager was. After chasing for 7 days not a single person has got back to me, I made a complaint to their client care team and they have not either. They did not do the job properly in the first place and could not care less about trying to make it right. Appalling service and best to avoid at all costs

"Laid back and no proactivity caused delays"
Updated comments following reply from Direction Law:
We asked multiple times for updates and an explanation as to the timeline and why it was taking a while and each time got a very brief and generic response. Most of what has been explained in the reply is the first time we’re hearing this. If we were aware as to the reasons for delays etc at the time then we’d have understood the process more. So comments regarding improvements needed to customer service and keeping clients updated with the progress is shown here which causes stress, uncertainty and frustration for clients.

The good news, Direction Law helped to complete our shared ownership house purchase in the end, hence the 2 stars rather than 1.
However, we were initially given a 2 month turnaround aim by the housing association and expecting to be completing at the beginning of March, in the end it was the beginning of June. We never felt informed by Direction Law in that 3 month delayed period and felt we were constantly asking for an update to be told ‘there’s no update yet’. At one point we were told “don’t be surprised if you don’t hear from us for a few weeks”. As first time buyers who had been given an estimated time which was 3 months incorrect, this hardly made us feel listened to or understood.
When we finally received the drafted contract lease, there were simple mistakes such as a wrong address set in a different town, this mistake was on the second page. We’d expect a solicitor to proofread basic details such as the address of the property being bought.
The biggest negative we experienced was being told that we were in a place to exchange and could now set our completion date which had to be a minimum of 7 days in advance. We gave our solicitor a date 9 days in advance. After not hearing anything for 3 days after suggesting this date we got in contact and were told by our solicitors that they hadn’t heard from the other solicitor to confirm that initial date and only at that point did they think to chase them. We had a response a day later saying that the other solicitors hadn’t received all the signed documents they needed so couldn’t agree any completion date yet. We had to cancel a removal van and change plans which we were given the impression to be settled. To be given the false hope from our solicitor that we could set a date only for them not to chase a response and leave us in a position where we actually could only complete a week after the first date we’d asked for was poor, again a complete lack of proactiveness and communication which led to us being let down.
Thankfully we won’t be moving house for a long time, but the whole process was made worse by Direction Law being so laid back and reactive rather than trying to process things in a more timely manner or at the very least keep us in the loop without making us feel like we were pestering them.
We’d recommend a rethink on the approach to customers and make it feel less transactional. Understand a house move is very stressful and a bit of decent customer service would go a long way.
