"RIGHT AT HOME STOCKPORT AND DIDSBURY"
RIGHT AT HOME STOCKPORT AND DIDSBURY
It saddens me that I feel compelled to write this review of the negative experience we’ve had with this company. The issues we have experienced and the company’s failure to even show any sense of compassion or empathy, let alone try to resolve these problems have been beyond unacceptable.
We contracted Right at Home to care for a family member who has dementia. One of the main reasons we chose them was because they stated they were specialists in dementia care.
Sadly, as soon as the visits began, issues quickly became evident that went beyond expected teething issues. While we have made Right at Home aware of our concerns repeatedly, we have received nothing but excuses, denial and in one case had our concerns rudely dismissed by management.
Our major concern is regarding medication. We have repeatedly visited and found pots of medication left with our family member unadministered. While we appreciate it is sometimes difficult to persuade someone with dementia to take all their medication, we would consider it unacceptable to leave them with the medication unattended.
We communicated our concerns to Right at Home through various emails and phone calls. At one point, we requested that we were given a daily update, even of a few words just to confirm if medication had been taken but were informed: “With regards to a daily briefing this isn’t something we could feasibly adhere to as part of regular operations.” We were later advised the best they can offer is a phone call at the end of each week. While this was better than nothing at this point, it does not solve the issue.
We would have expected all this information to be available to us in a care plan as we were under the impression that any carer would have to update this at each visit and we would be able to see their notes. However, no physical care plan is left at the property and all our requests to see one have been denied. We’ve never known a family member to be denied access to a care plan for any person under care.
Another problem has been with the length of visits. We were informed these were due to be roughly 1 hr, but we have frequently seen carers leaving in as little as 15 minutes after arriving. We contacted Right at Home about this and nothing changed. When we brought up the case of the 15 min visit, we were informed that the visit had been logged at 50 mins. As we have cameras at the property, we could clearly see the carer arriving at 2.37pm and driving off in their car at 2.52pm. Despite there being clear evidence, Right at Home still insisted that the visit had lasted 50 minutes.
Our final issue is with something we specifically requested and were informed would be the case. We wanted some consistency in who would be visiting as I’m sure anyone who has had a relative with dementia can attest, having the same individuals caring for them is a lot less unsettling than a different face every day. While we never expected the same individual every day, it was agreed there would be some continuity in who visited. This has not been the case at all, and we have rarely, seen the same person twice. While we appreciate the significant pressure the care industry is under in terms of recruitment, we would have at least preferred their honesty at the beginning.
All these issues culminated in a phone call with Stacey Gentle, who at the time was not known to us. We soon became frustrated with her dismissive attitude and perceived lack of desire to help and requested to speak to a different member of staff who we had dealt with previously. At this point, Ms Gentle’s demeanor diminished further and became rude and aggressive. We no longer use Right at Home’s services as it was clear there is a systemic problem with this organisation and our issues were never going to come to a satisfactory conclusion.
es were never going to come to a satisfactory conclusion.

"Crap COMPANY"
Horrible company to work for!!! They promise the earth, promise they look after their carers yet they treated me like crap. No work since they gave me a job, no proper training etc.. twice I threatened to leave then all of a sudden I got work yet couldnt do it cause of crap management. Then I get ignored for weeks and go above the managers head and get fired Hahahahaha WHAT A JOKE! The whole company is actually useless, over priced care packages, employees wages don't match what they do and no proper training done at all!! Don't ever work for Goldens greens branch as they are ridiculously unprofessional and then fire u if u go above their head because u are tired of their childish behavior

"Great company to work for and I would…"
Great company to work for and I would recommend them wholeheartedly. Over 30% of the offices are rated outstanding, against an industry average of 3% because we focus on Client and CareGiver wellbeing in all of the decisions we make. I've worked here for nearly 5 years and can't see myself leaving.

"Awful experience"
Awful experience. If I could give a negative star rating I would. We used their services after my Dad's operation. During the assessment they provided, we specified certain tasks were required, such as emptying the urine bag, helping use the walker, using the commode. They advertised and told us the carers would also do a bit of light housework such as the dishes, vacuuming etc if there was a lot of time spare.
We ended up having about 10 different carers coming to the house. If they were all experienced then it wouldn't have been a problem. However, only 3 were able to work unassisted. The rest did not have the basic skills – such as emptying a urine bag, holding onto the walker when my Dad is getting up to use it, how to help move my Dad to the commode when he needed it, where the toilet frame actually goes. One carer only changed one glove after wiping my dad after a bowel movement. We asked her to change both, but she said she only used one hand so it’s ok. It’s not hygienic.
They also sent a carer who didn't want to work at all and was abusive to my Mum . When we asked her to help my dad get up, she just put the walker somewhere in front of him, not even close enough for him to safely use. She wouldn't help him and just stood there watching him trying to get up on his own and wobble as he reached out for the walker. She didn't even bother moving it closer to him. Then she threw a strop when we asked her to hold onto the walker for my dad so it wouldn't topple over. She yelled at us and said if we wanted her to do anything we had to tell her exactly what to do! We paid £28-£30 an hour for somebody with zero experience. My dad could have fallen over again and end up back in hospital.
Many of the carers also complained about doing 10 minutes of dishes and simple ironing. We were paying for 5 hours per day and there was probably about 4 hours of spare time in between doing simple tasks for dad. Home Instead then said they will only do housework for my Dad and can do moping and vacuuming as well. Does that mean they only mop where my Dad stands and not where my Mum stands? This was not what they agreed to during the assessment. We then only gave them the dish my dad used and his clothes to iron. One of the carers still refused.
In summary, other than 3 carers, the rest were inexperienced. My Mum had to teach each of them what to do. Some refused to do light housework even though the company advertised that it is a service provided. Some were not only inexperienced, but had a bad attitude and the lack of care endangered my dad. One of them even threatened my Mum.
Avoid this company. Even if they were free, I wouldn't use them.

"Breached duty of care and confidentiality"
Unfortunately, we have had a terrible experience with Right at Home. Firstly the duty of care has been awful with my nan's wee bag constantly overflowing, they have served inadequate meals containing microwave rice, raw tomatoes, and raw bacon which is not only detrimental to her health being elderly and vulnerable but also has no nutritional value. They never got her out of her bed and many times refused to give her the bed remote so that she could adjust herself to look out the window. There is no level of care, they just rush to get the job done and get out. I am currently in the process of raising a very serious complaint to the local authority and regulatory bodies as there had been a breach of confidentiality including patients' family members' names and financial information. The carer left an unprofessional note directed at the family to which we had responded to. As a result of this, the carer had her partner come around the property of my nan and physically assault her grandson. This caused an extreme amount of stress for my nan. We have now changed companies and are more than happy with the service they provide. The carer is still employed at Right at Home so be cautious.

If I could give a zero star I would
This company is charging for 2 visits after a 93 year old tested positive for Covid and was admitted to hospital
They are saying because she never gave 14 days notice the charges stand.
I cannot understand how you would know you are going to be ill 14 days in advance!
We are now looking for a more compassionate company
