Cultural Care Au Pair

"The best of the best! "
Cultural Care is the best agency that I could choose for this beautiful kind of experience! Through it, I have had the opportunity to know new people, create unbreakable bonds and discover new places all over the United States.
Their assistance service, as well as the high competence of all the staff, has been the best that I could ever find so far.

"Nice program but incorrect families "
I really believe the program is very good, and you can have a wonderful experience. I’m currently with an incredible host family; I arrived last Monday. However, the rest of my experience as an au pair last year was really, really hard because the family was pretty mean to me and treated me just like an employee. They made me work long hours, more than 50 hours a week. They didn’t let me eat some of the food in the fridge.
Sometimes, when they went on vacation, they made me take care of the dog. One time, they were going to Costa Rica, and they didn’t tell me anything; only my host kid told me the day before that they were leaving for vacation. I asked if, during those 4 days they’d be gone, I could eat some of the chicken or fish in the freezer (and since they were planning their vacation, they hadn’t bought food for the week). I also asked if I could buy some tomatoes and bananas, and their answer was that if I bought anything, I had to replace exactly what I ate so nothing would be missing from the freezer when they came back.
Of course, they didn’t give me any card to pay for it, so I had to use my own money to buy food. I felt really disappointed in them. Also, when I asked for a rematch four months after I arrived, they wouldn’t let me do it, which was really, really hard for me because I was scared of my host mom. I got depressed, anxious, and they even took away the WiFi from my phone. They treated me so badly until I gave in and agreed to stay with them, which is why I didn’t leave until my second year.
At some point, I tried to talk to them about how I was feeling, but they got really mad and started yelling at me. I agree that the cultural experience is so nice because right now, I’m having the best experience! But I think communication with au pairs and CCs should be improved, more than just with the LCC, to make sure everything is okay. That way, au pairs could get more support in these cases. Thank you!
