Leigh Day handled a claim for medical negligence against a Hospital Trust following the death of my wife. From the very start of the process, I was confident that my claim would be handled professionally and so it proved. The claim was eventually settled. I was kept informed in a timely manner of the developments at each stage of the process. Any questions I had were answered immediately. Highly recommended.

"Cold, Unsympathetic, and a Waste of Time"

I contacted Leigh Day’s Human Rights department to enquire whether I could make a claim against my former boarding school for its well-documented safeguarding failures, which led to me being sexually assaulted by several men in 1980, when I was 15.

In my initial email, among other information, I provided:
• The name of my school,
• The year the assaults took place, and
• The name of one of my assailants.

Two weeks later, a paralegal called me and, among other things, asked me to describe the assaults to her. As you can imagine, this was an extremely difficult and painful experience. It took me days to begin emotionally recovering from it.

A week later, the same paralegal called me again—this time to inform me that Leigh Day would not be taking up my claim because the assaults had taken place “too long ago.”

I asked for clarification, and eventually, the lawyer called me. He explained that since they did not have reports of other claims against my school, they did not believe they would be able to prove that the assaults ever took place.

The awful truth is that Leigh Day could have made that decision based on my original email alone—without forcing me to relive my trauma by describing the assaults to an extraordinarily unsympathetic paralegal I had never met in my life.

So my advice to you is:

If you have a similar claim and want to be treated like a human being, do not contact Leigh Day.
