"What is the purpose of a Travel Agent"
I thought the whole point of using a travel agent was to help you book a holiday and do the things you'd be unable or nervous about doing yourself.
The purpose of a travel agent *should* be to suggest and advise- we were booked into the most expensive flights imaginable , and when I asked why, I was told *Well those were the dates you gave me*. But surely if she had said "if you go the next day instead, the flights are less than half that". But no. Then purely by accident I discovered if we were even a small bit late arriving we would have nowhere to stay as the hotel they booked us into closed at midnight. We were not warned about this even though Abbey Travel booked us on to a late night flight. When I rang Abbey Travel to ask when they had planned to tell us this we got "well yeah I understand but there's nothing I can do" and no attempt made whatsoever to fix my problem. They also booked us very expensive transfer cars which didn't even show up when we arrived. I told them to cancel the return transfer and give me a refund but Abbey Travel never replied. I admit I got upset with the agent on the phone but I apologized afterwards I was upset because I was so completely frustrated with their terrible customer service and we were likely to have to spend the night out on the street. We paid practically twice what we should have for a holiday that could easily have been planned properly had someone asked a few questions. This is what a Travel agent ought to do. So I thought. It would have been a disaster from start to finish only for the fact that we ended up spending twice the money. We won't be using Abbey Travel again.
Now that I've read the reply from Abbey Travel, this answers my question perfectly. What is the point of a Travel Agent. According to their reply this entire mess was my own stoopid fault for going on their website at all. Brilliant. As it happens I did attempt to speak to a staff member and was told the booking was in *no cancellation mode* already . So really you have more than adequately answered my question. Silly old me for foolishly going and using your website!

"My mother was traveling alone after…"
My mother was traveling alone after death on partner which was very nerve racking as this was 1st time for her doing anything like this on her own. So she decided to book through travel agent to make sure everything was prefect. First problem they forwarded the incorrect email to check into her Ryanair flight which was on a Sunday, as the offices where closed they said calls would be charged at €5 per minute on doing that there was another automated message saying it was going to be €50 per minute. Who in an emergency could afford this cost? Luckily Ryanair assisted my mam at no extra cost. 2nd problem the shuttle bus dropped my mother in the centre of the town at 10 o'clock at night with no direction on how to her accommodation. She could not find, so went into local bar and asked for help, luckily there are still some kind people left in the world they found her accommodation, but reception was closed and no key left for her. But for her return flight, she will have to walk on her own and stand on her on at 4.30am for shuttle, which is a concern as a women on her own. Abbey travels response was she can get a taxi (Over €200). I had texted accommodation that day to ask for instructions of keys be no reply was given. The local pub owner called all the number for the accommodation phone list and all phone numbers where invalid, so again where left in limbo. The Pub owner googled where there main office was a drove her there which was a 15 minute drive. On getting a reply from Abbey Travel they seemed very blunt and had no empathy on the situation. I would never use or recommend Abbey Travel ever again. They have said the have emailed accommodation and transport. But gave no solutions, I just found the service really bad. I would have been better organising the holiday myself and not giving them their commission for making the whole trip a mess & upsetting my mother and myself.

Our agent was very helpful, answered all our questions. Gave us details about documentation necessary before traveling. Re passport in date, travel insurance, and visas required. She was also available to talk to us when we phoned with further queries.
