We had a custom 180 stairlift installed for $15,500. Ashley, our salesperson, was on top of her game with email and text responses. That took all of the worry out of the process. She even accepted a credit card for payment, which earned us massive reward points. We made a down payment when we signed the contract and paid the balance upon installation. The build process took several weeks.

The installation by Justin, Thomas and Albin was very professionally done. Albin rang the doorbell right on the dot at the appointment time, introduced himself, and explained the process. The crew took everything out of the van and arranged it on the grass beside the sidewalk. I peeked out the window occasionally but tried to stay out of the way. They brought the rail in piece-by-piece. The curved part was especially massive. I could see why the 180 lift cost so much more than two straight ones; the metal had to be custom bent in the factory. The crew finished the installation by about lunchtime and then indulged me by letting me serve them fruit at the kitchen table. I learned from our chat that they also install platform lifts, which can be used for wheelchairs. We might need this sort of lift for another building we frequent, in the future.

Takeaways:
In retrospect, I probably should have spent the extra money to get the rail curve at the top of the stairs. The rail is not 'in the way', but even with the seat bottom and arms lifted, I always feel that I'm squeezing past it.

I was a bit disappointed that the seat, at the height suitable for a 5'1" woman, does not go to the 180 degree position to lock. The seat would have to be raised to achieve this. My elder has gotten used to the other locked position, though.

It's great to have a stairlift for heavy groceries. I even sat on the chair and hugged the Christmas tree around the trunk zoomed it slowly upstairs. I wish someone had gotten that on video!

I now feel like we are much safer in terms of getting my person out in emergencies and to medical appointments, but there has been one unforeseen 'side effect.' I gave in to the temptation to ride it so much that I fell further out of shape and put on weight. Caregivers beware! It is not your personal Carowinds ride.

All in all, I thought the company did a great job and I wish we had bought it a year or so earlier. I now schedule outings and appointments with confidence, knowing that I can get my elder to the car. We didn't need the 3-point harness and I doubt few people really do as you can walk alongside as the chair moves to steady the ride if needed. I hope this review helps other people understand the process of ordering this stairlift.
