"Taking Advantage of Older People and Insulting their Relatives."

My 80 year old mother was talked into buying a £2000 bed from this establishment, but when it came to be delivered there was no headboard that she had been expecting. When I queried this with the store, they informed me that the headboard was £3-500 extra! I refused delivery as the item had been mis-sold, but when I tried to get the money back I was given the. run around by rude store employees, who told me that the 'head of the bed department' would have to authorise it and he was "away".

What a disgraceful way to treat an elderly person. Be warned!

Addendum:

In response to the lengthy repost from the MD of John Doe - please allow me to correct you.

1. On the subject of the headboard - NO - I repeat NO mention was made of it in the store to either my mother or my sister who were present. Both are very clear about this. I was informed that the 'from £89' headboard would not actually match the bed and that one to match the bed would cost between £300 and £500. My mother and sister are both adamant that the bed was discussed "as a package" and were both expecting the headboard that it was displayed with to arrive with it.

You are correct that there was some reticence in spending £2000 on a bed, though whether this caused your salesman to not try and add on sell the headboard in case he lost the bed sale - who can say?

I telephoned your store twice to discuss the matter, the first time I was told that your "head of beds' would call me back that day - needless to say, he didn't. I called again the following day and no call was received. £2000 down, no bed, nobody resolving the issue. How would you feel in my shoes?

2. Your comment about the headboard not being ordered as there were concerns about it "fitting into the Annexe" is of course quite ludicrous unless we were building it with a 5ft high ceiling height.

Like me, you are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts. What a shame you didn't put 10% of the effort you have clearly made in sending me your reply and ringing round your mates to leave hasty positive reviews to balance my own into actually trying to resolve the problem in the first place. Try and look at this from your customers perspective- would this have happened had we shopped at John Lewis? I suspect not.

And can I suggest insulting the character of someone you don't actually know who criticises your shop is not a very adult or effective way of dealing with the situation.

Ask Elon Musk.

We look forward to receiving your cheque, and spending it elsewhere.
