"I needed good quality compost to…"

I needed good quality compost to complete my recently landscaped garden but I don't have a car. Found Plantsavers and they delivered 180L in easy to carry bag sizes within a few days. Very efficient and they kept me informed throughout. Good price.

I ordered the Shade Lovers plant pack a few weeks ago and now the plants have bedded in, I feel like I can properly review them. For £35 I received 12 good-sized plants and a big bag of compost. The plants were all very healthy and a good selection of 4 different types (hostas, ferns, and 2 types of heuchera). They have all bedded in well, none of them have withered or died, and there is new growth on all of them. I'm really happy with my purchase and the plants look good in the flowerbed and do indeed love the shade, as promised. The only negative, and it is minor, is that it took a little while to actually receive the plants. But the Plantsavers team were really friendly and helpful when I queried about it. Great customer service!

I ordered a £35 Shade Lover's pack, and every plant delivered was a good-sized and healthy specimen. Having compared prices with other web-based plant sellers (namely Crocus, Gardening Express and Jackson's Nurseries) I found that I would've been charged £58 more, and that didn't include the delivery, one meal donated to FareShare and 20L of compost that Plant Savers included with my order ... superb value for money!

Great idea, in principle, but I don’t think these people have a clue about plants, and appear to have no quality control in place, as to what is being sent out to trusting, supportive customers. First delivery, specifically the Spring Special, was probably the worst array of plants I have ever seen. About half were either dead, dying or desiccated, and the rest were past their best, so just lumps of post Spring greenery. The herby/fruity selection was just about OK, but 2 twigs of rosemary pushed into pots? 2 pots of withered curry plants, about 3 inches high? All flowering over and done with. Even the ‘grit’ I ordered turned out to be hastily grabbed builders aggregate, full of sand, and totally unsuitable, even damaging, for gardens. Not sure that providing peat based compost is a good idea either, in terms of green credentials. Maybe no-one was buying it, exactly for that reason, so I feel a somewhat dumped on. Granted, I got a refund on the aggregate, and another few plants to replace the dead ones, but still pitiful quality. There is a big difference between ‘saving’ plants that would otherwise have been wasted during lockdown, and delivering stuff which no self respecting nursery or garden centre would touch with a bargepole. Now that garden centres are open again, I can’t see how this business model can continue to operate, other than to make the owners, and their suppliers, a lot of money..... Sorry Matt and Ioanna, I know you feel ‘sad’ and ‘disappointed’ with my honest feedback, but having had so much confidence in your promises, to end up in tears of disappointment and frustration (and some degree of anger at the ‘service’) isn’t a good thing, by a long chalk. Good luck with whatever ambitious, lucrative and optimistic venture you embark on next. Try not to p*ss off your next trusting customer base, and leave out the insincere platitudes. Just wondering how many of the ‘delighted’ customers on here are friends of yours...?

Works out a really good price per plant, with the added bonus of knowing you're saving plants that may otherwise not make it and helping nurseries etc during this time.
