"Washing machine emergency "

Washing machine broke!
I went online with some idea what I wanted. Appliance World was a competitive price with next day delivery. Easy ordering and payment system. Kept informed of delivery slot.

"No empathy for the elderly "

My 82 year mother who is very hard of hearing, has mobility and memory issues ordered a new fridge on 21/02/25 for delivery on 24/02/25. Delivery was also paid for.

She did not see the email with delivery information that arrived at 5.02pm on the 23/02/25 as she doesn't use computers too often The email stated delivery would be between 6.15 and 8.15 am next morning as part of a multi drop. There was no way to contact them or the driver about this as their office shut at 4.00 pm on Sunday.

The delivery arrived at 7.10 am and failed as wasn't up and never heard the door or phone - who wears hearing aids in bed ?

I admit missing the delivery was her fault, but she did ring the store as soon as possible and had a fraught conservation with Laurence (?) and told it would be £39.99 to get it delivered again, a cost she can barely afford This is an outrageous amount especially as it was part of a 15 part multidrop and the orginal fee was £9.99. I don't know the contents of the phone call, but my mother was in tears when she managed to get hold of me and seemed most upset by the lack of empathy and understanding or care about her health conditions. Anyway I paid the new charges for her as we handle have to handle most of her finances, delivery has been completed now.

Lets hope other people have more empathy for Geoff the director than his staff do for the customer as he's 76 and a pensioner himself.

You haven't said how customers can contact you about next day delivery when you don't send out details until after the office has closed.

Also you figures for delivery seem to be based on a single drop delivery and not on multi drop as you use.
you also say say that is excessive redelivery fee is to cover things like VAT on fuel. You business should be reclaiming VAT on all purchases such as fuel, vehicles and repairs. If you were to use a courier service it would be much cheaper as you wouldn't have to deal with wages fuel and any vehicle related costs. another thing you state is the true cost of the product is around £5, if this is so how are you making such a the profit that is shown on documents submitted to Company House last year.

Finally, no my mother doesn't have a mobile phone. Giving you my number wouldn't help as I'm in a different part of the country and are not allowed to carry a mobile phone when working. The carer number woulkd also have been no good as they are notr paid for doing that. My mother did what she thought was right when she needed the fridge, but as stated before you obviously have no empthay of consideration for the elderly or infirm. One day you may be old and infirm yourself.
