"Economy Rent A Car - What a scam"

What a scam! It is no surprise that over 90% of reviewers give Economy Rent A Car the lowest rating possible. Because I didn't look at the reviews beforehand, I fell for the advertised low prices on my recent trip to Fort Lauderdale. I booked through rentalcar.com, which must be in on the scam. I prepaid to rentalcover.com for insurance coverage to avoid problems. When I arrived, and then spent one hour getting to the Economy office, I was told that my coverage was only collision, that liability insurance was mandatory, which I then had to buy from them. That doubled the cost of my booking. I avoided the sales pitch and costs for the "necessary" tollbooth transponder. This company's activities should be illegal, probably are, but nobody has sued yet. Stay away! Book with an established rental agency. I never had such trouble with any other rental company.

"Deceptive Practices"

We were flying in from Philadelphia, PA, USA to Calgary, Canada and rented a minivan on Travelocity.com with Economy Rent a Car, which had to be prepaid. I stated arrival time of 6 pm. Our flight was delayed and after getting luggage it was 7:20 pm. I called the number provided for the shuttle and no answer. Tried again and no answer. Called the corporate headquarters only to find out the location closed at 7 pm. Travelocity could not do anything to help either. This early closing time was not disclosed in any of the communication that I received from Travelocity, nor the email giving instructions for picking up the rental car, nor on their website. I feel this is a major scam. Their location in Calgary is offsite from the airport. There were at least 10 rental car companies on site and open at 8:30 pm when I was forced to rent a car from a different company. Had to make several phone calls over multiple days and send an email requesting cancellation of the rental and a refund. Finally got an email stating they would refund, even though it did not meet their refund guidelines, stating their commitment to customer service, less a $50 cancellation fee. This was a horrible and stressful way to begin a vacation. And I still had to pay them $50. Very poor.

"ESTAFADORES"

Yo alquilé un coche con ellos y tuvimos un problema que nos costó 3000 dólares...
Para empezar, nos constaba la oficina de Quepos airport como el lugar de recogida, y en el aeropuerto de Quepos no hay ninguna agencia. Nunca nos avisaron de esto, y al llegar dos horas después a la oficina real ni siquiera nos ofrecieron una simple disculpa por dicho error.
Tras alquilar el coche y devolverlo, nos solicitaron arreglos por unos desperfectos del coche que nosotros no habíamos hecho, pero tampoco constaban en la hoja inicial....Nos recomendaron que firmáramos un documento en el que reconocíamos los desperfectos asegurando que el seguro se haría cargo, y el seguro tampoco quiso hacerse cargo de la reparación, así que tuvimos que pagar una reparación por unos daños que no hicimos.
Trabajan con una web (rentalcars.com) que ofrece seguro de coche con cobertura solo en USA cuando se alquila un coche en otro país!!!!!!! Y ni siquiera avisan de tal cosa cuando se retira el coche de la agencia.
Son unos estafadores y no se puede esperar nada de ellos en caso de problema.
Mi recomendación es que los evite al máximo; sus precios son similares al resto de rent a car pero con menos garantías.

"Original Rental cost from £50 jumped to USD$1700 with hidden costs and lies"

On arrival to pick up our car (Costa Rica - 10 Days Hire) I was told we had to pay for a USD$700 liability insurance. This was apparently only available in Costa Rica and my other insurance wouldn't cover it. 

I then paid an additional $100, which the guy said covered me for all issues, excess etc. 

He then made me sign another sheet, and when I asked what this was that I was signing, he said this was all compulsory to include. I asked if it was included in my now USD$800 bill. And he said it was. So I said ok. 

On our trip, our bags were stolen, car keys included. Economy told me that lost car keys were not included in my insurance. I signed a waiver saying this. I asked to see this wavier, and it said 'lost' car keys. It did not say 'stolen' car keys. I had the police report to prove they were stolen, however they said that 'lost' and 'stolen' were the same. Even though they are not.

I had to pay another USD$350 on the spot, otherwise they would not give us a new key for the rest of our trip. 

On return, I was told everything was good and left. When I got back to London, I was charged an extra USD$550. Apparently, this form I signed was not included in the original USD$800 cost. And it included a 13% airport transfer fee, which I had not been told about, and not signed my initials next to either. 

Every time I tried to talk to these people, they talked over me - did not let me finish what I had to say. They still can not explain why 'lost' is the same as 'stolen' and they can not explain anything else I've asked. 

I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND AVOIDING USING THIS COMPANY.

"Bait and switch"

On Thursday, September 7, 2017 in preparation to evacuate Miami Beach prior to Hurricane Irma, we reserved a car from the website carrentals.com to be picked up at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport on Friday, September 8, 2017 and dropped-off on Wednesday, September 13, 2017. We pre-paid eighty dollars ($80.00) for an Economy Rent a Car with a daily rate of $9.50 for 5 days and the estimated tax and fees.

When we arrived at the Economy customer services desk, we were informed of the following:
1. Economy would not accept the insurance that American Express provides and for which we pay a premium. Although, we were not given the option at the time, we found out later that we could have given $1000 deposit to waive the fee. Additional Fee: $11.99 per day.
2. Economy charges for an additional driver, even though it was my husband of 40 years. Additional Fee: $15.00 a day.
3. Economy charges an upgrade fee to Florida residents who drive more than 100 miles per day. Additional Fee: $10.00 per day. This fee is not mentioned until after the order is placed online and given the evacuation order, we exceeded that mileage limit.

The final bill was $317.45 for the “privilege” of driving the Economy car out of harm’s way (Irma). We feel that Economy took advantage of the existing state of emergency.

I used to rent cars over website Orbitz.com and they are advertising so good price to rent car for 3 days from Economy,FLL total coming up just $74.45 but when we come pu car we have to pay $127.92 plus they charged us over $50 on toll roads we are not sure to drive through or not ...Very rude and not professional service,lot peoples walk away out the office and feel very disappoint,we have no choice that early time and no relative around,so be careful b4 sign to rent from them

I want to give them a MINUS STAR

They try to inflate charges by claiming insurance is mandatory even with major bank gold card used credit that automatically gives free car rental insurance is used for payment. After we refused to buy insurance then they claimed a huge security deposit is needed. After we refused that then they claimed they would not refund pre-pay reservation. I filed claim with my credit card company and won.

"DO NOT RENT FROM HERE, you'll regret later."

I was super excited with the low price of $79 for a week car rental. When we got there they tried to force us to get their insurance. After seem like hours they final let us get to our car. We drove and park at the Disney cruise parking lot for 4 days, so as you can see we didn't do much traveling for our 7 days vacation. When we return the car, I thought that was it. Until a month and half later, our credit card got charged and extra $150. We called and found that Economy charged us for 3 missed trolls. I called the turnpike or sunpass and they said they only provide the pictures of license plate to the rental company and can't provide us evidence that it was us. Rental company used their own 3rd party troll company who can make up whatever charges they want.

"Worst car rental experience"

Worst car rental experience ever! Economy car rental Orlando FL. Waited in line over an hour only to be told that the copy of my insurance card was not good enough. they needed the entire comprehensive and deductable. It took some time to pull it up from my insurance web site on my phone. apparently most people in line were doing the same thing when they got to the desk - hense the long wait! They could have told us while we were waiting so that we could be prepared! When we finally got the car the low air pressure in tire light was on as we drove off. Not wanting to sped more time to go back we drove on and filled tire up another couple of times until I ended up driving an hour back to exchange the car for another. I had a full tnk in the car I was returning and they tried to give me a car with a half a tank of gas. I refused it until they gave me one with more gas. When we returned that car and were in van on way to the airport everyone in van was complaing and had similar stories!
