"Choose a different company!"

I should have read reviews before booking this company. Usually I'd opt to rent a car but I didn't think I needed one for my trip to Curacao. On getting to the airport, there was no "sign card" of my name and the email confirmation made no mention of where to meet the person so of course I missed the pickup. I waited around and tried to call the many numbers listed for Amstar and they were all not working, I had to ask someone from a different airport transfer company about Amstar only for him to point me to a lady who was standing a few feet from me next to the Sandals sign. To my dismay, there was a list of other companies and theirs was on the bottom, in terrible lettering easy to miss if you were standing a couple of feet from it. Luckily the driver returned and was able to pick me up.

Now to my return, someone messaged me the day before and confirmed a driver would be picking me at the designated time. Of course, 12:38 pm on my confirmation email came (nothing) so I figured the time was probably in AST not EST. 1:30 comes around and nothing, I reached out to the guy from the previous night to confirm what time the driver would pick me because my flight was boarding at 2:38 PM and nothing. I left a message and called a couple of times. At this point it was getting closer to 2 PM so I made alternate travel arrangements for a taxi so I could get to the airport.

I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone and I would give them a zero stars if I could. I plan to dispute the charge once I get back home. The service was abhorrent and non existent. Use them at your own risk.

"Booked a tour in Costa Rica"

Booked a tour in Costa Rica. Waited in the lobby of our hotel for 30 minutes longer than out departure time at 730am. Amstar no showed us and didn't contact us to advise the tour was canceled due to lack of bookings. At 730Am we couldn't reach anyone at the 800#...fortunately our hotel concierge had a friend that worked for the tour company he called on his cell phone and was able to let us know what's going on. We made the best of it by moving around our other bookings but the no call no show is unacceptable. Will never book with Amstar again.

"At the initial pick up from the"

At the initial pick up from the airport, we were provided our paperwork. The paperwork included our confirmation tickets for the trip from the airport to our hotel and back. The representative reviewed the information and stated the pick up time from the hotel to the airport for our return trip.
On the day of return, the driver showed up to my hotel 4 hours and 30 minutes before my departure. The agreed pick up time was 3 hours before my flight was to take off. Driver told me he had to go and didn’t have a phone # for Amstar. Definitely wouldn’t ever use them again.

"Avoid amstar, will NEVER use again"

I bought a trip for two to Puerto Vallarta from cheapcarribean.com with an add on serene snorkeling trip from puerta vallarta adventures and added transportation to the package managed by Amstar. My transportation did not arrive to take me to the airport even after calling almost making me miss my flight. The serene snorkeling experience to the marietas islands was a false advertisement for essentially a booze cruise with 10 minutes of snorkeling in 7 hours. The boat blasted music which made sure there was nothing serene about it or animals around as the trip was advertised. I would have paid to get off of this boat as it was not at all what was described. I just wanted my money back for the transportation that never arrived and was ten times more than the local fares and a refund for the add on package since it wasted an entire day of my trip. The parent company, Apple, would not refund me anything and simply offered me free transportation on my next trip with the which will NEVER happen. It took over six weeks to get this response and around 10 phonecall and more emails. Horrible company, amstar was horrible, puerta vallarta adventures was horrible, and the parent company apple is horrible to deal with. Do not get your vacation through any of these companies.

"This is a warning to others"

This is a warning to others , do not sign up for the RHYTHMS OF THE NIGHT excursion in PV. You will be disappointed. It is not worth any of the money spent! Same feedback from guests at our resort. Not worth spending money on any ticket! AMSTAR promotes VIP tickets at $179 each x 4 of us. There was nothing VIP about the night. We sat with people who paid $129 & $149 for their tickets. A guest at our resort was able to sit where they told us we would be sitting during the show. We told the guys that sold us the tickets and each time we asked they said they hadn't heard back from their people. Stand by your excursions AMSTAR. You sold me 4 tickets that had nothing about VIP attached to them. Total waste of money!

"Avoid Amstar at Haven Riviera"

Amstar at Haven Riviera, Cancun. We are a young couple on our honeymoon that are fresh out of college (aka not super financially stable). We booked an excursion through Amstar that we booked through the Amstar kiosk at our resort. My wife and I both got sick with food poisoning from a tour we took through Amstar. When we needed to cancel our tour; there was never anyone at the resort early enough, no email to contact, and no one answered the number we were given. The helpful front desk at our resort tried to call also, but yet again no answer. So, we couldn’t cancel our tour early enough therefore got zero percent of our money back. This hurt us huge and will never consider coming back to the area again. For us we would have liked to return since this is our first vacation ever/honeymoon, but I suppose not.

So, the outcome of traveling with Amstar was brutal. We spent hundreds of dollars on nothing since they don’t refund even though we got sick from them. I told them our story and still they did not care to refund us a little of the money we rely on to live.

This is not an all bad review. The other excursions were well done and easy for us. However, the flexibility and lack of customer service in times of need definitely makes it not worth going through Amstar or any other travel companies. Companies like Amstar need to treat their customers better to continue to grow their potential, but I suppose treating others well is not a part of their business plan.

On another note, the transportation are always multiple people vans that pick you up. We had to go to multiple resorts and wait a long time for others to get on board. One stop we waited an extra 30 minutes because someone was late. This pushed our whole schedule back which in my opinion is unacceptable for the price we paid to be treated well. I could keep going on and on but I figured I should get to my recommendation.

My recommendation is to always take a few moments to plan your own trip. Do not do anything through these companies. Take time to schedule a taxi and buy a ticket to wherever you desire on your own when you arrive or the day of. This will ensure that the wealthy companies that steal from people like me that don’t have much to my name, do not get your money.

I am truly heartbroken from this scenario. This was the trip of our life and it got ruined from a poorly managed company. Please everyone who reads this review; try to not give these companies any business. They do not care one bit about the customers that make their wealth possible. The resort itself is amazing.

"The Worst part of our wedding vacation"

The hotel room, the food at Zen and a few staff members to include waiters and vacation planners did a great job at trying to make up for the HORRIBLE customer engagement and service received by the lone AMSTAR rep they had posted at the resort. We arrived to Hard Rock over 3 hours late due to a bad storm and had to sit on the runway the whole time so we didn't receive the normal meet and greet when we landed in Cabo. The rep that met us on 1 Jun was able to accommodate a ride to Hard Rock Cabo.The next day was the wedding we were there to attend and didn't see the AMSTAR rep at all. The next day my elderly Aunt, myself and my additional family members that were there (10-plus) was told we would have to find our own transportation back to airport because of a missed appointment...he specifically stated he met with me the night I landed and gave me an appointment. I never seen that man a day in my life until I had that conversation. He just straight up lied and said it very loud as to try to embarrass me. Instead of being rude, I asked him for the management number for AMSTAR (which they hung up on me twice) and proceeded to find me and my family members safe transportation to the airport. As a disabled woman of color, I felt highly disrespected and discarded by the AMSTAR Rep and their company. I would highly suggest Hard Rock Cabo not affiliate themselves or allow them to occupy their beautiful space with a company that employs ignorant and rude personnel such as AMSTAR. All of the veteran groups and travel clubs, that me, my family and friends associate with definitely were passed the information about their company.

"This review would have been five stars…"

This review would have been five stars but unfortunately, one of our excursions was a disappointment. My family went to Cancun and booked a few excursions. The tour to Coba was amazing and the driver and guide (it was her last day on the job) were Great! Our ATV and zipline tour was excellent! The sunset sailing was canceled due to the weather, so we rescheduled. On the day of we all got dressed and waited for over an hour. After several attempts to reach our contact person, she texted to say it was canceled again and we would have to request a refund. How absolutely annoying.

"Be careful with them"

Be careful with them. They are not just for airport transfers(usually done by a nice SUV or bus). Once they get you to your hotel(we were at the Barcelo Adults only in punta cana) they try to set you up for excursions usually the next day. You are better off using the hotel staff for this. I bought 2 excursions from them and they overcharged me on the 2nd one by about $54. And they charge you in dominican pesos so make sure you figure out the exchange rate--If I had done that I would have caught it!!The hotel guy sits right next to the Amstar guy in the office, and they sell the same excursions. The hotel is not likely to try that because of their reputation!!
