"Over Paid for a problem that didn't…"

Over Paid for a problem that didn't exist. I gave a detailed description of the issue we initially encountered. The Ground floor toilet would over fill with clean water after successfully flushing. We paid the call our fee and had some one arrive very quickly. He "Identified" the supposed problem, shot off to a shop to purchase a part for the toilet. After spending 3-4 hours installing the new part the toilet would still overflow. At this point our Bill was at £600 and would potentially grow to further work being done. He suggested pulling the toilet off of the wall and inspecting the pipes behind. To which we politely declined. We told them we would like work to Cease and we would have another Plumber provide their suggestion. Today we had a call out plumber visit us and in 5 mins Identified that there was a blocked drain. Located out the front of ours and neighbours house. He showed us photos taken down the pipe proving the problem and quoted us £180 to have it resolved. So we Paid out £600 just before Christmas to fix a toilet that was never broken.

"Terrible company to deal with"

I needed a plumber to repair a tap in my bathroom which was stuck on. It had been getting gradually worse but was suddenly running freely on the hot tap on a Saturday. Called friends but all busy and my usual plumber does not work weekends. Googled emergency plumber and got directed to PM247.
They got back promptly and arranged to come 2-4pm. The plumber arrived at just after 4pm in the end. I was quoted £144 for looking at the job and diagnosing. He did this in about 10 mins and did seemed to know what he was doing.
Then PMR called me and told me that the total had gone up to £354 inc VAT even though it was just a washer repair. They asked for the full amount up front. I refused. I agreed to pay 50% and 50% after the repair was complete and I was happy with the work. By now it was almost 5pm and I would not get another plumber that evening.
As soon as I had put the phone down from paying 50%, the plumber came down to say he had finished. Tap now works and has stopped dripping. I then paid the balance, literally about 5 mins later.
I felt thoroughly ripped off by the whole experience and also intimidated. Why could he not discuss the job with me and agree prices himself. English was his first language and he, himself, seemed fine. I felt very intimidated by these phone calls demanding payment and the fact that I was forced into agreeing. I am not old, do not live alone and have dogs but I still felt very backed into a corner and needing to pay to get out of the situation.
I have a tap that works but the whole experience left me feeling vulnerable..
