"Poor service Dublin Airport"

Took almost an hour waiting time to get car hire . Huge queue in Dublin airport. Staff appeared disinterested. On return of car , a further half hour wait to be seen. Shuttle bus filled to capacity a Scandinavian family told to get off. Appeared understaffed. Would not recommend

"Best advice - stay away"

Previously, we have been very happy with the service from Sixt in Germany. Therefore, we decided to go with Sixt on a recent trip to Ireland. What a mistake that was.

First of all, we had to wait for our car although we arrived on the time we had booked it. When it arrived it was dirty like most of the other Sixt cars. All in all a bad and very delayed start.

However, the real trouble started when we had a flat tyre. We call Sixt Roadside Assistance and they informed us that we would have to change the tyre ourselves. We attempted doing that but Sixt had removed the Driver's Manual as well as the wrench key making it impossible to change the tyre ourselves. I called Roadside again and the offered to send somebody out to help but we had to pay €92,82 for the service. However, we would have this cost reimbursed when we returned the vehicle. They roadside assistance arrived and he then expected another €60 for 'additional milage'. Again we checked with Sixt and again they confirmed that we would have to make this outlay. The following day we had the tyre repaired and paid another €100. All in all more than €250 for a flat tyre. However, when we returned the vehicle we presented the receipts but they informed us that they couldn't help us and that we had to mail the receipts to Sixt Customer Service. When we returned home we did just that and guess what, they wouldn't cover anything. I cannot say that I am surprised when I started to investigate further. Sixt Customer Service cannot be contacted by telephone but only by mail, Sixt refuses to direct my calls to a member of senior management and if you look at the reviews here at Trustpilot you can see that this a clever scam covered in a strong and recognised car rental brand but it has nothing in common with the Sixt customer service and values I know they stand for elsewhere.

My strongest advice - do NOT book with Sixt. They might be cheaper on the car rental itself but they will cheat and empty their vehicles for necessary equipment to secure you pay a significant amount in additional costs.

"Be carefull unless you will be standed in sligo"

Sixt in Ireland is the worst experience I ever had. They are cheap in a sense that do not mean inexpensive. Even if we had insurance they let us stay on a gasstaion outside Sligo for 2 days. Then they charge my creditcard for incorrect excess, which were objected bu mastercard. They were rude in a sense that insults me. Because of Sixt I don't think I ever going back to Ireland, such a bad exprience. If you come across the name Owen M. be aware he is a crock and worst person I ever done business with.

"Chaos at Dublin"

We Hired a Renault Kadjur end of August 2016 from Dublin airport.
We were delayed 1 1/2 hours due to a computer failure. If I hadn't shown the staff in key reception where my vehicle key was I'd still be standing there! Complete chaos. I had spotted our vehicle being parked, just as well.
Having checked the vehicle 50kms down the road it needed 1 litre of oil and all the tyre pressures were wrong! Obviously it hadn't been checked.

We were also charged an extra 75€ for going over the border into N Ireland and adding an additional driver. We were not informed about these charges until point of hire, a bit late then, beware.

I emailed customer services immediately but have had no reply 2 weeks later! I don't expect one now , but have written to Sixt Managing Director in Ireland . I wonder if hes bothered.

I will mention that the staff at vehicle check in were very good.

"Not worth it"

Rented a car two weeks ago with Sixt Ireland. I spent weeks ahead of time going over details via email with Customer Service, before even booking, to make sure I had all the necessary information. My cousin and I chose Sixt because they allowed us to waive CDW insurance coverage, since as long as I paid with my VISA, the type of card I have covers that insurance for me.

I sent multiple emails back and forth making sure I had the right type of proof to avoid the reviews I'd read of renting cars anywhere in Ireland -- the hidden fees. Many reviews of many companies complained of showing up and having to pay way more than expected, but you have no choice because you need a car.

Well... when we showed up, despite having the letter from VISA, addressed directly to Sixt, stating exactly what the emails back and forth said I needed, Sixt asked for a 5000 Euro hold against my credit card, just in case something happened!!! That's 7,500 dollars Canadian, and my entire card limit. I simply didn't have it available, as I NEEDED that money for my trip (naturally)... who just has 5000 Euros kicking around as "just in case" money?

I would have understood if, when emailing back and forth with the company in advance, I'd been told "oh and remember, you'll need to put down a 5,000 Euro deposit since you're not taking insurance out with us." If that had come ahead of time, we would have rented with Budget or Enterprise, both of which were cheaper even with having no choice but to pay their CDW insurance.

We ended up having to take out CDW insurance with Sixt, costing us an additional almost 500 dollars Canadian, but like many reviews I'd read had warned -- you're standing there, they're holding the keys to your car for the week, and if you walk out you lose all your money... so you really have no choice.

Renter beware.

"Join the queue and wait without information for a few hours!"

I booked a car via Ryanair's website and when I arrive to pick it up at the check (May 3rd 2016) in desk in Dublin airport there was a large queue. I assumed it was normal volume of people and only about 15-20 people were in front of us so I imagined that would be processed quickly. I was traveling with my partner and small baby and after more than an hour and a half of waiting we finally got served. It turned out that the systems were down and everything was being handled by paper and the two/three staff were totally swamped. I have no issue with any of that except they could have made more announcements, or kept the customers informed in general or given a discount on the booking for the waiting, or advised if we could cancel and get a refund!! (While waiting there I was actually thinking it would have been a great idea if Sixt had a partner agreement with another Car rental Company (say Hertz), so that they could have taken the bookings!) It was really poor service overall with no consideration for people traveling with small children! Some people even left the queue to make another last minute booking with another company! I was too tired to complain at the time and actually felt I would just have been complaining to staff where were doing the best they could. If also wondered if showed up late my almost two hours to return the car would I have been charged? I think yes and so for Sixt not to offer any apology or make an announcement or offer a refund or anything was poor! I will not be using this company again!

"Dreadful customer service"

Firstly turns out that Sixt Ireland is a franchise operation and not actually directly run by sixt but by a local company with branding(the UK, and most of europe are genuine sixt operations). The customer service is really poor- do not expect anyone to pick up the phone- and get good at speaking to a machine that no one collects messages from. Overall there are so many other better suppliers at Dublin Airport -why suffer with sixt Ireland?

"Beware of Final Price"

I rented a car from Sixt at Dublin Airport in May. I prepaid through CarTrawler and was very surprised at the additional costs when I arrived at the airport. The additional "optional" coverages, which I did not wish to purchase were more than the original rental rate. I have my own coverage for Collision Damage and have always used it when renting cars from other companies. They would not accept this at Sixt. The first car they gave me was very dirty, had damage and was missing a wheel disk. I insisted on another vehicle. Staff were not pleasant. I would never rent again from them.
