We went into our local store (Stellisons Canterbury) to buy a tumble dryer. A very nice man helped us choose but said it wasn't in stock at branch but he could get it there the next day. I asked if it would definitely be there and was assured "barring a natural disaster, yes" I paid for the item and went away thinking "What lovely local service". My wife rang the next day and asked when we were likely to be able to pick it up. She was met with an abrupt reply saying "I don't know". She then said "It will be there today won't it" and was rudely told that he couldn't say definitely and certainly couldn't give any idea of a time. I talked to the chap and suggested that it may help compete with the online retailers if they could be a little more certain on delivery times. I got a rude, short reply saying "well I can't do anything about that, I'm just an employee". He then just put the phone down. I went into the store and asked for, and received a refund. Placed my order online sadly. That level of customer service is shocking and uncalled for. I gave some suggestions for future improvements (its called customer feedback!) At no time did I shout or get angry. Maybe the chap was having a bad day, but still unacceptable
