This company do every single they can to avoid paying a claim. Not answering emails, lying about response times. Repeatedly, over weeks, after I called them they asked for information already provided. They then quoted their own policy exemptions at me to avoid paying, despite the fact I was compliant within the policy. Look at their replies to unhappy customers on this website - they are identical. Don't use them.

"Columbus did not pay up"

Insured with Columbus. Island trip. Eight hour flight delay. Couldn't reach our prepaid hotel that night and lost our prepaid dinner too. This is why we buy insurance. Columbus said their policy didn't cover that.

Unfortunately We booked our holiday via Thomas Cook. After the collapse I contacted Columbus, but was informed I was not covered for this problem. As a result I cancelled my insurance and I received a full refund of the premium.

I made a travel delay claim a month ago, sent all necessary documents via email but haven't had any correspondence from them, not even a confirmation. I have followed up by phone twice since I made the claim, and both times I was told the claim will be processed as a matter of urgency, and that I would receive a decision by the next working day. I'm still waiting.

You never know how good your travel insurance is until you need to claim. First time I have had to claim during a hospital admission abroad. Simply called the abroad claim line for a claim number, gave this to the hospital (or they wouldn't have treated me), paid the excess, and Columbus took care of the remaining bill directly. Upon my return, I asked them to refund the prescription bills and hospital expenses cover, which they did over the phone. Very pleased with their service and would recommend.
